I have a 2010 Toyota Tundra Crewmax Limited. Coming from a 2001 Ford F-250, my Toyota blows the doors off my old Ford. It rides like a Cadillac and handles like a sports car. I tried to deal with my local Ford shop but they didn't want the sale I guess.  They offered me $4,500.00 For my F-250 crew cab with 112,000 miles on it.  At that time it booked for $9,000.00. I was pricing out the Platinum Series and they wanted over $47,000 out the door. A 2010 H-D was $48,000. They said if I had a friend at Ford I could get on the X Plan and save a few hundred bucks.  They tired to force me to buy that day and something wasn't smelling right when they couldn't even tell me the APR. I hate being treated like I don't know anything so I kept looking. I went 30 miles down the road to another Ford dealer and by this time I was signed up for X Plan and that's when I found out the few hundred bucks was really more like a few thousand. Now I'm really pissed and thought where am I gonna get this thing serviced at?  Do I really want to drive 30 to 60 miles to avoid the local dealership?  That is when I came across the Tundra.  I never looked at it before and when I sat in the back seat and realized it had more room than my 250 I was sold.  Dodge & Chevy I did not fit in worth a crap.  I'm 6'5" and 300#.  I've had the Tundra almost 3 years and love it!!!!!

Feel free to PM me if you have questions,

Rick

I asked a similar question in 2010 and here is a link to that thread

I test drove a 5.7 Tundra 4x4 Crewmax. It road less truck like than an F-150 but seemed real solid. Boy that  5.7 has some balls!

I have to sell my 2007 Honda S2000 first before really negotiating the deal. I never trade in. Years ago when I was considering selling cars a friend in he business said that selling used cars is where it's at. He could sell a new Corolla and make $45 or selling a used Lexus and make $4500. That my friends is why I never trade in.

I've owned (2) F-150 Eco-Boost & the later model ( fall of 12) all have updated ecm's to eliminate any hesitation  or throttle lag. I pull a 21ft Cuddy cabin boat with mine & it has torque like  no other gasoline engine pick-up I've owned. I previously owned a Tahoe 5.3 & it was sick as a dog pulling & a 06Powerstroke 6.0 that I traded in at 237,000 on the original engine. I've never liked the Toyota's as they are terrible on fuel mileage.

The F-150 outsold  the Toyota by about 6.5 to 1 last year, which I find to be illuminating after all the hype from Toyota back in the late 90's and early 00's about how they were going to do the same thing to the US manufacturer's in light trucks that they did in small and medium cars.  Last time I looked the F-series nameplate was still holding a commanding lead in vehicle sales in the USA, and the Tundra wasn't even listed in the top 30.  Hmmmmmmmmm.

Anyhow, since my pension plan is fully funded I don't care what anyone buys.  I'd suggest however that it makes a lot more sense to arrange long test drives of each candidate versus asking a bunch of guys on a Harley forum what they would recommend.  Harley people tend to be a little suspect, considering how they keep buying poor quality motorcycles and all. ::)

If you want a work truck, the Ford wins hands down IMHO.  If all you want is a "Sunday go to meet'n" truck to ride around in, there are several choices that will do.

As for the Eco Boost thing, there has been a TSB out for some time now that addresses the problem and if followed completely it takes care of the issue.  If you're buying a new truck, the updates should already be in place.

I sold Toyota vehicles for a short while...I can tell you one thing about the Tundra, and that is it is built like a brick chithouse, rides well, has great brakes, and a reliable motor.  You can get some deals on them too, depending on the time of year and incentives offered.  If memory serves me, some models were rated to tow up to 10,700 lbs.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with a F-150 either.

2001 Dodge Cummins Diesel is what I've been driving since new!! One of the loud ones!! Love it! Only 136,000 miles on it. Since 2002 I've ridden 3 different Harley's to work a lot. Probably rode 95,000 miles on them. Saves milage on the truck. No new truck for me ever again!! ;D

In the last 20 years I've had over 25 heavy duty pickups.  In the 90's Dodge had the only good diesel motor on the market, their transmission, brakes and suspension really sucked.  The Ford Powerstroke wasn't in the same league and Chevy was a joke.

In 2001, Chevy came with the Duramax and Allison.  Great engine and transmission.  Surprisingly the Chevy suspension also led the pack. Proves you don't need to jack them up in the air to have a good suspension.

Currently, all three are very good trucks.  Ford has fixed the Powerstroke problems, Dodge has a much improved transmission and brakes.  Chevy has improved the Duramax.

Currently, I've got 4 Chevy ton dually's with the Duramax and Allison that we use the crap out of on the farm.  I think I will try a Dodge next, they are more willing to deal than the other two. I've been around diesel's a lot and the Cummins is definitely a great engine, even my John Deere lawn mower is a diesel.  The only gas engines I've got are 2 Harley's.

If you really want to pull a load, there is no comparison, buy any of the big three diesel's.

this is my first 2012 F150 after a woman pulled out in front of me w/o a chance to brake. I had minor injuries for the extent of damages of both vehicles ( lexus rx330) The dealership I worked for took over 30 photos to show the safety of the F150 & I'm sold on the safety factor alone!

I'm just real glad you were in this truck and not on your bike......that's the up side. :2vrolijk_21:

This has certainly been an entertaining thread but where's the pics?  :nixweiss:

I've owned a lot of trucks over the years but only one Toyota.  Several Chevy, a couple of Dodges, Nissans and of course Fords.  They've all been good trucks with nothing other than regular maint. but some did get better mileage than others.  As far as performance and comfort I'd have to say....the 02 Harley F-150 with the supercharged motor and four bucket seats.  http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/slideshow/2121342

As far as a work horse and comfort I'd have to say.....the 04 F-350, FX-4 Lariet, dually that I pulled my boats with.   http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/5188867

As far as the just plain "cool" factor....probably have to say the Silverado that I just sold.

But over all, comfort (who would have ever thought that a work truck would have heated and air conditioned seats?), power (it'll lay down rubber with those 20' wheels), torque and just a good looking truck goes....the current F-250, FX-4, Lariet.  http://www.flickr.com/photos/37830424@N02/7877713496/in/set-72157631282343136

Love my '08 6.4L F-250 diesel with mini max tuner, exhaust & dpf delete.  600 HP and very reliable.  Pulls my 28' Cobalt A28 like nothing.  I also get 13-20 MPG.  I am partial to Fords as they've always been good to me.
