110 to 113 anyone?
« on: August 08, 2013, 06:36:51 PM »

Done.a search an not finding much but maybe I am missing it. Thinking of boring my 110 .060 to the 113 for a reasonable price upgrade. How many of these are around and how are they lasting. I have some concerns about the cyl thickness at the spigot. Is there enough meat left there for the cyl to stay stable? I have seen the kit Subrban Speed offers so sounds like it is being done, but is it dependable and worth the money?

Yes that's the kit I have seen. I know your a respected builder here, so what is your opinion of this kit? Or the 113 with the CVO heads for that matter

I prefer the Bigger bore cylinders for the longer skirt. But this combo should work well. They have been selling them a while and I haven't heard about any blowing. The Mahle pistons are a good piece. Their domes are properly shaped for the CVO110 head.
The real 113 will have better ring seal and longer life guaranteed. We have one running around here with 65+k miles on it and still going strong. It will pull on a dyno and spit out a 125+ hp number any day of the week.

Thank you for your thoughts. I would love to be able to go to the bigger bores too but having the 110 case, and the granite color makes the cost a little out of my budget for now, so I was looking at this as maybe a cost effective way to help. The 124 would be my dream but for now......

How many miles do you ride annually?

Depending on the winter weather somewhere around 12 to 15,000 a year seems to be our norm.

I suggest leaving it alone.
The requirement for a case bore, crank work, and all the other costs adds up. It's not much more to go to 124" with an S&S kit and your heads worked. Why dabble. Wait and get it done once and right.

Thank you, I am sure your right. I have even been telling myself for the last year. Ever noticed how hard it is to just leave something alone..... Once again thank you

We've bored several to 113".
No issues.
One has been to Sturgis twice now from Upstate New York, plus beaucoup' miles racked up on it here in the northeast.

Thank you Scott. I was worried about the cyl thickness at but spigot, but that 2-0 from the pros on the reliability.

x2. That's the best advice so far.

However, Rev Performance has another option.  http://revperf.com/.  I wonder if Dewey's or Hillside have any experience with these?

They have a 113 kit that is a direct bolt-on with granite cylinders and S&S 10.5 pistons.  No splitting/boring the case involved.  It's a simple install.  I had piston slap in my stock motor, and the 113 kit really quieted that problem.  Burned less oil, too.

But just the big bore kit alone isn't going to make a huge difference.  You'll need head work, the right cams and exhaust, maybe a TB, and a dynotune done by an expert, to really make a difference.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Really looking at this more as a low buck rebuild on the top end. Bike is at 40,000+ and counting.  Correct me if I am wrong but the cyl's pulled bored .060 and dropped back in with +.060 pistons would be all that would be needed with a good valve job. The cases wouldn't need to be split because I would be using the same jugs. It would be the same install as the Rev Performance, without the fear of the coating peel that seemed to reported with the Rev kits of the past. Sorry, I guess I didn't give enough info at the start of this thread...lol and should have explained my thinking a little better.  The motor now is a 10.5 SE with the 260 cam kit  the 58mm TB and the SERT. Great motor for a drag race but way to lazy when wife is with me. Thought is maybe the extra 3 cubes for $800 would maybe help with the slow intake runner velocity on the bottom end and make a cam swap that needs to be done no matter what motor is built and get back to a cam that closes early to mid 40's. Am I still thinking wrong? Would it still be the most cost effective to wait on Harley or S&S to give me something in granite?

Id try a cam change first, when you are ready to pull it apart you could assemble a 120R spec'd around touring using the heads/tb you already have .

Not 100% sure but I think sumax has the correct powder for the cvo platinum,Scott from Hillside would probably know better than I would.
