Removable Tourpack
« on: January 21, 2014, 01:37:00 PM »

I see that Harley has finally come out with the removable tourpack kit for the 2014's.  Has anyone ordered one yet?
I have been wanting to get one since I bought my bike and am now on the fence, I am not sure that I will like how they have decided to integrate the turn signals into the saddlebags.
Just looking for others thoughts.
Also while on the topic of new items that were just released...will the chrome radio bezel work with our setup? I see that the lock is really close to the radio/dash?

They've always had a "kit" for making the standard Ultra TP detachable. The issue was making the CVO Ultra TP detachable due to the # of electrical connections. Do they now have a kit that is designed to make a CVO Limited TP detachable?

Fitment says for the FLHTKSE...They have a separate CB kit that would be required.  More snow on the way so this would be a noice winter project :)...if i had it!

Trying to fond a reason to hold on to the CVO and some updates during the winter is always a good reason.

I just did this on my '15. I don't think they changed anything between '14 and '15 so I can snap some photos tomorrow when it's light out.

I had a '12 CVO Ultra and now have a '14 FLHTKSE. I bought the docking plates and hardware from HD. I also purchased a license plate light to mount under the cross bar for the turn signals. That is a standard Street Glide part. Purchased a curved chrome license plate bracket/frame to mount the plate. You will also need the Tour Pak detachable bracket to fasten to the Tour Pak. On the '14, HD made it very easy to disconnect the wiring. All the plugs are between the seat and Tour Pak. I then just neatly fold them to be hidden under the seat. I don't use the CB or FM, so I didn't relocate those antennas.

I'll have to say though, the stock seat looks way too "fat" without the Tour Pak on. I was thinking maybe a stock Street Glide seat may look better, but haven't purchased any seat yet. Oh yea, when I mounted my plate under the cross bar, it does cover about 1/2 of the CVO medallion. Kuryakin has a plate bracket/frame with a tri-bar light which I think would completely cover it.

I'll try to upload a picture from my iPhone. For some reason, I'm unable to post it with my PC.
Clicking on the image.jpg on the lower left corner will show the correct position of the bike.

I saw a 2014 at Biketoberfest without the tourpac. The bike looked great. My one complaint about the bike is how topheavy it is, does removing the tourpac help?

Big difference.
After you remove it you will see how heavy that unit really is.

Finally remembered to snap a couple of photos.

Easy job to do. Most time spent was unwrapping and re wrapping the cables to get rid of antenna cable and make it so I could keep my bag locks without the tour-pak.

Not to thread jack, but how did you guys mount the license plate below? I like that better but there's no light underneath my turn signal bar. :(

The license plate light and bracket are the same for a regular Streetglide, not a CVO, so have your parts guy crossreference the numbers and you will be good to go.

Cb, Now you know exactly what yours will look like. :-D

Lars, I had the guy look it up and he said the only issue is there isn't going to be a wire to plug the light into. I assume he's incorrect and it's actually there?

You are correct, he is wrong.
Remove your tail light and you will see there is a connector block with several terminals. If I remember correctly there is an empty slot that will power the license plate light. I think the license plate wire has a plug on the end of it and it will plug into the connector block.
I used a volt meter to make sure there was power to the terminal when the ignition switch was turned on.
I think the connector may be universal for both Electra-glides and Stree-glides.
Be careful not to connect it to a turn signal terminal.
Good luck with your project.
If you have a manual that has the wiring schematics, it may show the wiring for the connector block.

I really want to get this done but figure I will have to buy a second seat for it because the OEM is a bit to fat at the back without the tour pack.

I added a backrest when I did the tour pak removal on my 2010 FLHTK. Used a medium height bar so I could mount a T-Bag on it when I traveled. The backrest makes it look better with the stock seat on the bike without the tour pak. Later purchased a 2013 CVO 110th anniversary Road King seat that has a lower profile and looks nice without the tour pak. Will attach photos of both.

Backrest with stock seat

Sorry about the upside down photo, just open the picture and it comes up ok. Thanks.      JoeS

Here is a picture of my SEUC8 with the four point docking setup, LED lay down tail light without the clear top side license plate light, and with a Street Glide seat installed. I have since changed out the seat for a Mustang One Up seat.

What is everyone doing about the antennas?  Are you guys just going without CB and using a hidden am/fm antenna?  I would like to maintain cb and radio functionality but I don't want the two long whip antennas out the back.

Thanks for the compliment. All I did is remove the tour pack, bought a SG license plate bracket and plate light. All that information is on this site, that's where I found it. I did not buy the quick disconnect it is only 4 bolts to take on and off the tour pack.

The one up Mustang seat is nice and comfortable also.

I have a 2014 cvo limited. Has anyone that removed their tourpac, installed the harley hidden antenna pn 76000513 ? Did you need to  purchase the Fairing power extension harness pn 69200921 or did you not need it since the bike came with the boom audio and amplifier already installed on the bike.

The turn signal bar is the same one that was used on the 2005 CVO Electraglide which had a light under it. part number for the light is 69353-05. Get the tag bracket that has a notch in the top to clear a bump-out in the lense. I used a Kuryakyn tag bracket without the notch. I notched it and still had to space it out with a washer on each bolt hole between the turn signal bar and tag bracket

Detachable tour pack, hidden antenna license plate holder and custom seat, was a piece of cake to do, no other parts needed.

I installed a Mustang solo seat. Also made my own wire harness to run the locks on the bags. . I did not use the quick disconnect for the tour pack I like the cleaner look without it, Besides its only 4 bolt’s to take it on/off.

I agree on the cleaner look. I do like the quick release racks  look better when using the tour pac. Doesn't have the the tag bracket across the back. I will probably get the insert covers and remove the quick release hardware when the tour pack is removed for long periods of time.

Has anyone with the new infotainment system had issues when they remove the tourpak because it removes two speakers or is this addressed in the quick detach kit?

Does not cause any issues with infotainment system, I had to cut some cable ties on the wiring harness so the plugs for the saddlebag locks could reach, fold the rest up under the seat.  I did add some 3M clear plastic on the rear fender to keep the quick disconnects from marring the paint when I put the tour pack and touring seat back on.

Quick question:
I have read the service manual to figure out how to just remove the tour pack and as far as I can tell I just need to unplug the cables for the light bar and the speakers and undo the 4 bolts that secure the tour pack to the fender. I figure I'd just have to reverse that process, which is not all that labor intensive to put the tour pack back on.

Is that it or am I missing something?

Re: Removable Tourpack

That will work. The wire that goes to your right saddle bag will not reach the connector once you wrap the wiring harness around to fit under your seat. The cover on the harness can be unwrapped and you can separate the wires that go to the saddle bag. I took the pins out of the connector, removed the short piece of gloss black insulation. I then slid a long piece of heat shrink wire insulation with out heating on the wires first then put the gloss wire insulation over the wires next so that both wires going to the bags will look the same coming out from under the seat then I put the pins back into the connector. Then rewrapped the harness with the right saddle bag wires left out of the wrap.I think without using quick detach hardware it might be hard fit the tour pac bracket back in the slots of the fender struts without scratching something unless you have help lining it up.

Detachable tour pak and 4 point docking kit. For license plate I just used SG setup and put tour pak wired under seat.

Sorry to bring back a dead thread but I was wondering if anyone had the part number for the street glide tag bracket they used for their 2015.

My dealer isn't sure if the Chrome hd curved bracket for the street glide (part #67900008) will work because the light bar is different.
The street glide light bar is straight, ours curves under the brake light.
Thanks

I found that the light bracket that came on my 2014 CVO Limited was the same light bar that was used on the 2005 CVO Electraglide. I bought the tag light # 69353-05 to fit the light bar. I used a kuryakyn curved tag bracket, but i had to put a knotch in the center of the mounting area for the wires and elongate the mounting holes ,so Im not sure which Harley bracket fits. Bracket # HD 67900008 or 67900056 looks like they would fit since they have the knotch that I had to put in mine. The later is for earlier bikes. I would see if your dealer has the light bar for your bike and see which tag bracket matches the mounting holes and has the knotch.

Update:
The tag bracket part number 67900008 does not fit. The bolt holes don't line up.
Don't want to drill the fender so I need to find an alternative tag mount.

The tag bracket mounts only to 2 threaded bolt holes that are in the back of the light bar which are not the same bolts  that go through the fender that hold the light bar to the fender. You have to remove the light bar then bolt the tag bracket to the light bar then bolt the tab bracket back to the fender. I had to slightly elongate the holes in the tag bracket to fit the holes in the light bar. There is also a couple of small threaded mount holes in the light bar that allows you to mount the light that will illuminate your tag.

I attached a picture of the light bar from the service manual that shows how the tag bracket is mounted to the light bar

Thanks AG.
I did some research after I posted that and found out you are correct.
I actually have it installed now and will be ordering the light for it as well.
That looks way better than the tag on top of the light.
I was thinking about putting a piece of electrical tape inside the light lens to close off the top tag light or what is everyone else doing about that light?

i have a 2016 roadglide ultra cvo and was wondering if i can swap out the lights from a street glide? not really wanting to put my turn signals on my saddlebags and prefer the street glide taillights over the roaddglide anyways. i haven't found a post about anyone doing this. any input would be appreciated

On the 16 CVO Road Glide, it looks like they used a different fender that doesn't have the dimples and holes to mount the street glide light bar. If you remove the Tail light there will be holes that you wont be able to cover. You could possibly put turn signals in the filler panels between the fender and bags.Kuryakyn has lights that fit the cutouts in the panels for the non CVO bike.

I unscrewed the tail light guts from the outer lens and slid a piece of tin foil over the LED.

Not that bright...really?  Not doubting you, I just had a different experience.  Saw these on a showroom bike a couple days ago and they were bright enough to where you couldn't tell if the OEM brake light was in brake or running mode.  It was impressive enough to pull the trigger on a set the next day.

Edit:  Sorry about that...after re-reading this I see you were talking about Kuryakyns.  I saw and picked up the ones from Custom Dynamics.

My local dealer carries filler lights and those are really bright, I'm not sure what brand they are but those are the ones I should've bought. I know they're not the Kuryakyns.
Don't matter now, got rid of it because of the front end wobble that bike had (tired of taking it back to the dealer and seeing/hearing how well the lemon law works just easier to get rid of it) and the dealer made me a killer deal on a new 2015 cvo limited. Much happier with the way it rides.
No need for the filler lights.

Buy I did make this handy little sticker for the top of the brake/running light to hide the tag light.

Yes, disassembled the taillight red outer cover from the inner stuff, just screws holding it together, used the thin double stick tape and a piece of tin foil to cover the LED ( chrome side up), and reassembled it. Easy peezy

So I'm putting my list together for this project. My last part of it was to decide on what to do with the license plate and light. I happened upon this light on eBay.($14.95) I looked at the existing light  and it looks like this will just screw in place and connect to the inside of the taillight housing. it has a three plug female connector on the end that will plug into the male end behind the taillight.  All I should need now is a street glide (non-cvo)  license plate bracket.
After it arrives all go down to the dealer and pick up my four point docking station and removable bracket for the tour pack.

Got this bracket off of eBay. It's made of steel and allows plenty of clearance away from the fender that there's no possibility of running. As soon as I get my nerve up I'll take the medallion off and re-locate it just underneath the license plate.
