Crank rebalance when using 95" HC Pistons vs stock weights
« on: April 15, 2014, 03:56:23 PM »

I am new to Twin Cam motors, being a die hard EVO man. If 88" cranks are balanced for 88" pistons (cast) the 95" pistons are .125" larger and should weigh more throwing things out of balance. How heavy of piston/pins/rings/keepers can be used before things get out of wack?
the 10.25:1 or 10.5:1 forged should be considerably heavier. My other question is. I read about people building a motor and then get it dynotuned. What happened to the 2,000 or 1,000 mille break in periods? Trying to work out details than cause problems by buying the wrong parts for my son

I am by no means a motor guy but when the dealer did my twin cam with a 95" kit they never touched the bottom end. Seemed like a little more vibration but held together for 17k miles without a hitch. I put some hard miles on it at the drag strip and some street runs against the new 103 when it came out. They uses 10.5 forged pistons and Screamin eagle heads from the mother ship. The only thing not Harley was the carb. It produced at 98 h.p. and 103 tq. when finished.
