I have popped 2 V.R.'s in 48 hrs found my 1 yr old batt had a short. My question is how hot dose a V.R. get to the touch in normal conditions?

What kind of short did your battery have?? Sounds like you should be checking your stator!

What year model bike is this?

Unplug your stator mad see if you have continuity through the stator with the engine killed.
