Screamin' Eagle SE-585 Performance Cams
« on: January 21, 2015, 07:11:28 PM »

http://www.harley-davidson.com/store/twin-cam-performance-cams---se-585

Does anyone have any info on this cam....seems to be a "NEW ARRIVAL"

This cam is a great match for riders of heavy Touring bikes looking for big torque at the low end. Just a quick downshift to fourth gear results in an effortless pass of that slow moving tractor-trailer ahead of you. A unique combination of lift, cam lobe duration and an enhanced cam profile ramp provides a performance boost you can feel.
This cam provides early on high torque at the low end of the RPM spectrum
The cam’s QRD (Quiet Ramp Design) delivers high torque throughout the RPM range while reducing valve train noise
Includes front and rear cams. Splined rear cam is included for exceptional load handling capability
Dealer installation is recommended and special tools are required for proper installation
All EFI-equipped models require ECM calibration (priced separately)
Recalibration is required for proper installation
See dealer for details. Labor costs not included
Gaskets and bearings sold separately

That new 120st at 9:1 and those cams would be an excellent long term solution for the distance riders.
Looks like 234/240 duration and 31° overlap

The dyno graph would be interest to see.  I found it interesting that they mentioned valvetrain noise.  I predict that these will take the place of the 255's next year.

Perhaps if they can pass EPA with that much overlap. With a cat they can probably make it.

What  compression can this cam handle in a 103" on a 14 or 15 limited wet head.
also the VH power duels a good choice  I take it. But with what muffs to get the tq up quickly, and deliver all it can to the right

I cant comment on the compression until I try them and see how true they run to the calculators. Fullsac, Crusher, Rush, D&D, V&H all have decent slip-ons.

Looks like this cam will slide the torque curve out a bit. Might be a response to the 255's torque falling off so soon, and provide a better response over 3000 rpm.

With .535 lift and intake close in the 40's, not many will care.

I have always found it very comparable to the 48.

apparently they can.  on the website, it states that they are 50 state legal.  i'd be real interested to hear how much they quiet the valvetrain down.

The interesting thing to me is that MOCO has acknowledged that the 255 and the similar grind cam supplied in the touring bikes have valve train noise.

I am hoping that Steve at Fullsac will test them out and let us know what he thinks.

nice specs, but with that much lift this is not a bolt in cam. New valve springs will be needed. The Andrews 57H a nice touring cam too with similar specs and is a bolt in.

I would like to see the results of this cam AND the MR103 from S&S, would be an interresting match-up.

48 & 254 are not bad cams, don't hear of 'em being used as much as the torque cams (255, 551, etc.) in baggers.

Most of the time I see those cams is from going from 96 stage 2's to a big bore for 103.  They already have the cam type of thing.

The 48's run very well in 96" and 103" engines when folks are in search of a plug/play cam that delivers early and rolls off well past mid range, with whisper-quiet valve train.
90 hp and 100 ft/lbs in a 96" w/o a sweat.

Just saw this thread, isnt this SE cam the same specs as the S&S 585 cam? Also as far as valve springs, isnt the SE heads on the CVO 110 already have the upgraded springs?

Here is a photo of my scrap bin
Most of the springs in there are from CVO 110 motors. I prefer beehives for most builds

That aluminum, will bring more than the short steel prices.
Might want to save the pistons in a seperate container.

HD Performance and Hillside- what lift can the CVO 110 head take? Are the springs too strong, too weak, not enough lift, why changing them? Do the heads flow to the limit of the stock springs or drop off before? You guys are the experts here.

Just tuned a 2015 FLHXS 103 with the SE585 cams, Fullsac header, Vance & Hines slipons and a SE air cleaner.  Valve springs were changed as well.  Very impressed-- made 94 hp and 109 ft/lbs STD with a very broad torque curve.

Here's a 2015 Road King with the SE stage III kit which is the SE 585 cams and 10.5:1 pistons.  Air cleaner is stock and the exhaust is V&H power duals with SE mufflers.  Tuned with a SEPST.  Baseline is a stock 2015 RK.  Bike is 103"

I stopped into the local dealer today and talked to them about the SE585 cams. They have done one 103 with the SE585 cams and had great results. Living in the mountains, I would like to have some more low-end torque. So it just might be a winter projects for me.

FYI: I put these in my 96" RoadKing.  I love the flat TQ curve

I happened to have a ride uploaded from the RPMitUp App on my phone from before:

I had them in my CVO 110 and they made 103/109 SAE. Stock motor with .030HG and SE58 TB
Sold them to a customer that put them in a 110 stock block with my heads SE58 TB stock injectors at 10.5:1 and it made 120/127.
Been compared to the Andrews 57, maybe by .053 timing which is close, but not the same plus it has the added lift which the 110 heads like.
