the Engine was made by porsche and the Transmision by Getrag

The motor was co-engineered with Porsche, using their R & D plant in Germany. It has always been made here in the states though. Here's another picture.
One interesting side note, the fins on the heads are just for show. The original motor from a VR-1000 doesn't have them.
