I can recall in the late 60's, early 70's a 750cc motorcycle was considered to be in a super-bike class Harry. When I bought a 750 Norton Commando in 1973 or '74 (before I got married in any event), my riding buds were envious of the large, powerful engine & 'cutting edge' technology. When looking back at that period of bikes now, those engines look so modest... Still wish I had that Norton now though.  :nixweiss:

Isn't it amazing?  I remember thinking the same thing about motorcycles.  I remember looking at the metric big fours in the bike magazines, but the Honda CB750 and the Kawasaki 750 triple and Kawasaki 900 four are forever etched in my mind from the 70's as bigger than life.  To me back then, they were positively huge motorcycles!  I remember thinking that I'd never be big enough to handle one!  Funny how things change and how we perceive things at an early age...

That's a flash back post right there. In 1974 I had that big fast Yamaha DT# 250 seen here and my buddies got the Honda 750 Fours. SOB they were the biggest badest MoFo's and I was little POS. I saw one the same old Hondas the other day and it looked so small and pitiful, how time does change everything.

Hey Kiro,
The Norton Commando.  Just the name brings back so many memories and feelings.  I thought it was to die for back then, and I'd love to have one now also, but I'd bet you it would feel tiny, even tho it looked so huge to me back then.  And the women in their ads in the bike mags.  So racy, just like the bike.  To a young impressionable boy, those women sold me on the bike, but I loved that black with the gold decal on the tank.  Man, I thought that bike had it all!

The first bike I rode was an old Benelli 50cc. Street legal in Italy. An old man brought it back from Europe when he was in the military. The first bike I owned was a Honda 750 Shadow. I only kept it about six months. As soon as they came out with the VTX 1300 I got one of those. They gave me almost what I paid for the Shadow as trade value.

WOW ! What great Forum Member stories !!

Well, my first Motorcycle was a Red, 1972  Benelli , 65cc Dynamo Dirt Bike with a 2 speed automatic transmission, as my Dad didn't think I could handle shifting the 4 speed model !!

What a mistake, I was kind of a plump 12 year old and the old 2 speed automatic wasn't stout enough to pull me up the big trail hills, my best friend had the same Benelli, but his Dad bought him the 4 speed unit and he kicked my butt on the old trails, but we rode for hours out on those dirt trails, what a great start to my Motorcycling future.

Thanks for making me think of the Memories !!

Anyone else ever ride a Benelli dirt bike ?

The first bike I had was a 1969 Honda 50cc. I rode the wheels off that thing, tearing up my parents yard in the process. Thought I was the coolest kid in my neighborhood -- of course I still think that all these years later  ;D .

This a pic of one I found on the web....

Another that sticks in my mind because of some great memories of blazing trails through the woods with my buddies and racing down the NG pipeline and electrical power line right of ways..can't do that stuff anymore around here  :(

Saved mowing yard & hauling hay money for this 1973 Kawasaki 175.  Think it was $379, bought in 1972.  Pic is me doing donuts in my front yard in Texas.  Car was mine, too.
