Because of the weather being bad for my camera I am unable to take many pics. There could be hundreds more.

This storm came in from the North and the road runs East and West. None of us like riding in the snow but had to do what we had to do. Wasn't better to turn around.

Because the snow was getting too deep on the road we abandoned the ride and became stranded in Austin, NV.
Power was out on the Southern side of town. This North side restaurant let us camp out there after breakfast and the place started filling up from other snow weary travelers.

None of wanted to stay in Austin especially Andy. He had to take action so he flagged down the snow plow and the driver radioed ahead to get road conditions. We were soon on the road again.

Austin apparently has big Pumas for hunting
(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7233/7276413206_5f99c7bb70_z.jpg)

Made it to Ely, NV. It rained a lot but we didn't let it bother us after the snow today and yesterday.

Yep, that was what we wanted to.....but it wasn't to be.  The pictures don't even show the serious stuff we rode in......the roads got to slippery and it took both hands on the handlebars plus we all put our cameras away to keep them from getting to wet.

I was amazed that Terrie was able to ride through all of that.  Just not sure how many women would do it.  I'm proud that she stuck right with me and made it all the way. :2vrolijk_21:

The call Hwy. 50 "The Lonliest Road In America" for a reason.  You add a few passes up above 7,000 feet and a little snow and it gets real lonely.  30 seconds after a vehicle would pass, the tire path would already be turning white again and covering over.  This was the point where we decided we better not attempt to go any further.  We'd already been riding in it for three hours and we were exhausted.

The view from the back of the bikes....

and a view from the front of the bikes.  We found an old abandoned gas station that we could at least get the bikes out of the snow.....

You ever try to turn a motorcycle around on a hill like this, while the snow is coming down sideways.....

The hill that we'd just came down.  Our tire tracks in the street are already covered over.....    That's Richard up the hill in the street, with Andy standing beside him coaching on the turn around process.... it was hairy for sure......

We are all fine.  I even got to lead a couple of times so now everybody wants to go back to the snow!  :nixweiss:

Having connection problems so can't post a.t.t. No WiFi where we're staying Monday.

After trying to become the Donner Party, two wheeler styled, everything has turned out exceptionally well. Made a trip to Zion yesterday and did the three hour guided tour of Monument Valley today.

We will post again when we can.

Don't let my wife hear you saying that. My wife will, and has ridden in all types of weather, including snow, pouring rain, and hail. She is a veteran rider, and can keep up with most "men". We also ride with a couple of other women in our group that I can deffinately say the same about. One of those woman (coincidentaly also named Terri), is one of the BEST riders that I have had the privlege to ride along side of (man or woman). On the other hand, I have seen "men" riders that would not ride at 85 degree weather if there was a slight mist coming down. Terri is deffinately a trooper in my book, but don't think that only "men" can take that kind of punishment. I give a very high five to Terri and the rest of the group, but just wanted to let you know that woman can and do ride as good as men, in all sorts of weather. :2vrolijk_21:

Duke was leading us in our search for a hotel room.  A reminded.....all the power was out on the south side of Main St. and that just happened to be the side that all the motels were on.  Didn't matter, they were all still booked up with the exception of the only motel that had propane heat (don't ask why they'd still have rooms available....except to say the rooms were scarey lookin :nervous:)

Nobody was taking their helmets off at this point in time...... :huepfenlol2:

This lady was on it.......as fast as it would drop, she was a shovelin......

Several other bikes joined us under the abandoned gas station awning.  Since there wasn't any electricity, the gas pumps weren't working.  But the local mountain men came to their rescue with gas they had in cans up in their homes.  Eventually it quit snowing and the roads were nothing more than slush and we were all back on the road headed in what ever directions we were all originally headed......

JR, I can't believe how much snow you have ridden in on this trip  :'(.  Is this expected weather this time of year or is this considered the "not so normal"?  :nixweiss:  Are you almost to your destination and what does the forecast going home look like?  I think I would take a different route home so you get out of those higher elevations and away from the snow.  :vrolijk27:

As the snow started to clear a little, Andy stopped one of the snow plows to ask him road conditions east on Hwy 50.  For those of you that have never traveled Hwy 50, it's advertised as the Lonliest Road In America.  Not exactly the road you'd want to get stranded on, on a motorcycle.  We loaded up and headed east towards Ely, Nv.

This is a couple of shots from the top of the grade just above Eureka, as we were leaving town....

It was pretty much clear sailing (compared to what we'd already been through) the rest of the way in to Ely, Nv.
We go rooms at the Prospector Casino & Hotel.  Very nice rooms, lounge and restaurant if you're ever passing through and suprisngly affordable, too.

We slid a couple of tables together under the big flat screen TV in the lounge and had dinner right there by oursleves, while watching the UFC fights....

The Prospector Casino & Hotel is modern, compared to everything else in Ely and they have a large overhang to park the bikes under.

Our original route and plans had us passing through Grand Junction, Colo. with plans of stopping for lunch.  We were supposed to hook up with another member of this forum, Striker, and his wife for lunch.  However, due to the snow setting us back so far on our schedule we decided to head south for warmer climate.

Striker, sure sorry we couldn't make that rendavouz.  I hope you got the voice message I left. :2vrolijk_21:

Our next stop was to be the Best Western in Cedar City, Ut.  The BW Town & Country Inn (there are two BWs just a few blocks apart) was remodeled in 2011 and a very nice BW.

We rode south on dry roads......

Great pic!!  Yea I've been on that Hwy and he's right. Very lonely but a beautiful through there. Um, minus the snow.

Rain gear was covered with spray from the road so I took a shower with it on to wash it. Dried it and packed it away. Mailed it home in Montrose to free up the needed space.

Wet gloves needed drying on the inside so I cut out holes in the bottom of hotel's drinking cups and pushed inside of gloves. Propped gloves over heater vent against chair.

For those in the Zion or Bryce Canyon area, the Best Western Town & Country Inn (there’s another BW just a few blocks down) is a great place to stay at a reasonable price…and just remodeled last year.  Indoor pool and spa in a glass enclosed building.

We met a number of CVO owners in the parking lot of Jacobs Lake.  Don was sure to give them all a card for the forum.

This guy, however, was not on a CVO.  Out of eastern Canada, sorry, don’t remember his name but he had an interesting color in that paint scheme….wasn’t the “orange” that we’re used to seeing on a Harley.

Don & Carol…..it’s 467 feet to the water….

The old on the left…..the new bridge on the right….

To put 467 feet deep in perspective…..those are 12 man rafts down there on the water.  While the water looks nasty in the pics, it was actually clear and the green is on the bottom.  This, my friends, is an undisturbed, unpolluted Colorado River.

Elevation check…..

Looking back across at the Vermillion Cliffs and the valley that we’d just passed through.  Notice the gorge of the Colorado River cut deep in to the valley floor….a much longer ride across there than what it looks in this picture.

The Navajo’s selling their handcrafted wears at roadside stands all across the southwest….also another perspective of that valley we’d just came across.

We took a tour of Monument Valley in a 4x4 truck.  We got lucky, got about the best truck out there (some were pretty scary lookin) and the best guide and unlike most of those trucks that were packed three to a seat…..it was just us seven.  We also had a great tour guide, Patsy or Pat.  Get this tour at Goulding’s Lodge.

The tour will be my next entry to this ride report.  I took over 3,000 pictures in 11 days and the hardest part about doing these ride reports is deciding which pictures to post and which to skip……….don’t want you to miss any of this great ride!

We arrived at Goulding’s Lodge 20 minutes prior to our guided tour of Monument Valley.  We really had to hustle, get checked in, drive over to the house, unpack and throw everything inside and get back to the Lodge for our tour.  Come on now……you know we made it.

We got a decent truck with decent upholstery and a metal shade top….huge in this area!

For those traveling to Monument Valley, if you go to Gouldings Lodge web site and view the homes they have for rent, this is the house called “Monument Valley House”.  It’s listed as a 3 bedroom, 3 bath however, it has another small room that has a hide-a-bed.  There’s a base rent up to six people, then it’s so much per head beyond that.  It was a great deal for us and a great location.

You all are an amazing group.  Knowing the weather conditions at the start, it's impressive that you even got this far.  The photo tour was outstanding.  And, I think we all learned the benefits of showering with our rain gear on and multiple uses for motel cups to dry our gloves.  So, Don, are you sure you didn't have your camera dangling around your neck in the shower?  Soap on a rope?

Very cool report!!!

Let's just say that the decision is on hold for the moment.  She's out of town this evening and will probably not be home until after I'm in bed.  But we're trailering the bikes over to Jim's tomorrow (drop them off for the week, for the 50k service on both bikes).  We'll have plenty of time to continue the conversation on the drive over and back.

It's interesting how quick she forgets all the pain and only remembers the good times.  Maybe it's because the pain is greater for me than for her. :nixweiss:  The doctors have always told me that I have a very high threashold for pain......but you can't prove that by me.  When I'm feeling it, it's excrciating.  Tried talking my chropracter into taking up motorcycling so he can go with us.  He told me I'd have to talk his wife into it first.  She was in the office when we were talking about it once.....she just gave me the "look". :nervous:

JC, the pictures are beautiful  ;D. My first question would be, if you guys are in what looks like "Red" dirt desert, than why are you still wearing chaps.  :nixweiss:  I understand long sleeves, keeping the sun off your skin keeps you cooler, but chaps?  :confused5:  Loved the wild donkey's and the beautiful house you guy's stayed in and I noticed you and Terrie got the master bedroom  :P  :2vrolijk_21:.  And about selling the bikes,...Terrie has flashback's of all the great time's you guy's have had and maybe those memories are closer to her heart than the painful one's.  I know that you two will "give and take" and somewhere in the middle you will both follow your hearts and make the right decision.  Thank you again for another great riding trip.  :1syellow1: :beerchug:

I didn't take chaps.  However, even in red rock (or red dirt) country, it can still get very cold in the mornings.  Some, like Andy & Sherry wear their leathers all the time, no matter the temps.

By the way, Terrie got home right after I posted yesterday and we had "more" conversation.  I can't exactly say it went in my favor.  It's a hard thing to deal with when my heart wants to keep riding......it's my body that wants to stop. :nixweiss:

Great shots and great ride!!  I've been to some of those places, but will have to visit the others in the next few years, by whatever means.

JC...the only way to get those shots and not have the foreground dark is to use a Graduated Neutral Density filter...about a 2 stop version, and get the square kind, not the screw on the lens kind.  You can just hold it by the top corner and put it over the lens.  You have to expose for the foreground and the ND filter holds back the sky exposure.  It's just about necessary to do a manual exposure.  It's a lot of trouble, but sometimes worth it.

Mesa Verde is a neat place...you've got a good eye.  I've got nearly the same shot of one of the dwellings....

Leaving Cortez the next morning we headed towards Telluride.  Our first stop was Delores, Co. another interesting little town.

It was our first introduction to the Galloping Goose.  There were seven of these things made in Ridgeway, Co.  This one looks like a school bus with an old locomotive engine.

JC, Colorado is breathtaking  :2vrolijk_21:  I have got to put this trip on my "bucket list "  ::)

All of western Colorado is beautiful however, it's the southwest corner and the Four Corners area (Monument Valley included) that are my most favorite area.  We spent five days in this area and never rode the same roads twice.  Just a really great time! :2vrolijk_21:

Great lookin' trip JC! Looks like a little something for everyone including the Eskimos! Took the ride from Cortez to Telluride last year and remember that canyon road (145) well. One of the purdiest rides I've been on. Taking it again this year in the other direction. Thanks for sharing another great ride report!

I agree, JC...that Southwestern quad of CO is spectacular.  Lot's of 13 and 14K peaks.

That's nice through there Marty, just to short.  The roads to ride are going north and south.....  Colorado Hwy. 149,  145/62 and US 550 (the million $ hiway).  Those three roads are like an all day sucker! :2vrolijk_21:

Our next stop…..Telluride.  I’ll go back to this town again, someday.  Hopefully in the winter in a 4x4…..spend a night or two….maybe put the boards on and hit the sloap for a couple of runs.

Interesting concept……leave it if you have it….take it if you need it….free.  Of course this concept would never work in Sacramento (or any other city)….there wouldn’t be anything left to take.

My next challenge/adventure…..look forward to doing this loop in my 4x4.  It’s a loop between Lake City, Ouray and Silverton back to Lake City.  A 4 wheel or all wheel drive car will not make it.  They said that it needs to have some body lift……that any 4x4 truck and most high lift SUVs should make it OK.  Of course, the shorter wheelbase will do better, clearance wise.

Our next stop….a great little town that’s back in off the beaten path, Creede, Colo.

We had the Creede Hotel to ourselves.  A great, historic hotel that a number of famous people have stayed in.  Terrie and I had the Calamity Jane room…..

And it had the balcony attached and a restroom (not down the hall)…..

The dining room downstairs was very nice.  We had dinner and breakfast there….

Several movies have been made in the area, several other movies made about this area.  Currently, Johnny Dep is filming Tonto and The Lone Ranger….a Disney Studios film.

Andy, Don and I walked off up the canyon to do the underground mine tour.  It’s a guy thing so the women found something else to do…..

You can see the large tent on the right, up the canyon.  It’s the wardrobe, dressing and make up tent for the move set.  The underground mine tour is across the street, on the left side.

The road is blocked off for the movie set.  If you look closely you’ll see an old steam locomotive at the back of the canyon, in the middle of the street.  We were told that was trucked in last week on a flat bed for the movie.  Supposedly they dug a fake mine and in the movie they’re going to blow it up.

Even though it was hot outside, it was cold in that mine.  They have a rack of loaner coats for men, women and children….

Our tour guide was an ol’ guy that had worked in those mines all of his life….now on oxygen and had to drag that little tank with him everywhere.

You should have saw the look on the little ol’ lady’s face behind the counter when Andy put his loaner coat on, reaches in his pocket and pulls out ten $100 bills and claims “look what I just found in this coat pocket”.   I told Andy, she’ll be checking all those coat pockets from now on, after each visitor leaves.

JC, I thought I had seen beautiful country until I just looked at the last picture's you posted.  This is surely where God would live if he were picking a place to stay.  The beauty just takes my breath away.  I will get there someday...I will make that my promise in this lifetime.  Thank you so much for taking all of us places in your picture's that we have never been.   :dankk2:

More shots of the Rio Grande River.  It actually looks like a river down here.  Up at the headwaters it wasn’t much more than a creek.

In this photo, at the bottom right, you can see some iron railing at a turn out.  This turn out has a steel sky walk that hangs out over the cliff (free, no cost).  As you walk out on it and look straight down, you’ll see the huge waterfall (Bear Creek Falls, right outside of Ouray) that’s directly under the highway at that location.

The waterfall across the river was the first one I saw, as I walked out on the skywalk….

And then I went to the other side of the skywalk, hearing the loud noise, to see this huge waterfall directly under the bridge of the highway…..It’s Bear Creek Falls.

And it continues down the side of the rocks all the way to the river far below….

Our home for this night was the Ouray Hotel.  Right in the center of town.  Another hotel found in the book Colorado’s Historic Hotels.  Terrie and I had the corner suite.

The next time Terrie and I are in Ouray, we’ll be staying at the Wiesbaden Hotsprings Spa & Lodging.  http://www.wiesbadenhotsprings.com/

While we were staying at the Ouray Hotel on this trip, we had the hotel manager make arrangements for Terrie to get a massage.  We wanted someplace within a couple blocks walking distance.  When we came back from dinner he had it lined up….a block and a half up the street towards the mountain behind the hotel.  Hot springs, underground vapor caves, spa, etc.

I’ve been to more than a few spas and had my share of massages and been in a number of hot springs.  So I thought “well, I’ll bring my swimming trunks and hang out in the hotsprings pool while Terrie’s getting her massage”.

We get to the Wiesbaden and it was very tranquil looking.  Being a tourist town I thought $$$$ for the services.  Since Terrie was going to be getting an hour and a half massage, just $15 for me to hang out in the hotsprings pool.  Great!   The masseuse came and asked if we’d been to the vapor caves yet?  What the hell is that…..must be some gimmick.  We told her that we didn’t have any idea what she was talking about and she said “well let me show you”.

She took us downstairs in the building that we were in and immediately I felt the warm humidity.  We continued down a hall, past the changing rooms and showers, through a couple more doors and into a natural underground cave that was something like right out of a movie.  She said the water is a constant 108F degrees (you don’t just jump in to water that hot……you ease in to it, very slowly).  Later I tried to run back in with my camera to snap a couple picks of the pools in the caves but the lens just fogged over to quickly however, I did get a pick of the entrance to the second door in the caves….

And the massage room where Terrie spent the next hour and a half.  I went back and forth  from the outdoor hotsprings pool to the vapor caves.

While I can usally take or leave this kind of thing, I have to say that this is the best hot springs I’ve ever been to, without a doubt.  Terrie came out of her massage and for the next half hour told me how it was the best massage she’s ever had anywhere.

The window screens obscured these pics….

and.....if you have a 4x4 with at least 9"-10" clearance, preferably skid plates and wants to do several 14,000' passes four wheelin, you might be interested in this web site....   http://www.alpineloop.com/HTML/index.html   This web site is interactive with several video clips and history of the old mining towns of days gone by that are back in the mountains of this loop.  Even if you're not interested in four wheeling, you may be interested in clicking on the link above to view the video clips and history of that area.

The Alpine Loop is a dirt road (the ranger said that in places you'll be in 4x4 low and climbing a rocky road) that's 65 miles long and runs between Lake City (pgs. 14 and 15 of this ride report), Silverton and Ouray (pg. 16 of this ride report).

Hello JC!
We meet at Pashnit trip planning, I drag you over to ADVRider, and now I join here to follow your latest trip on CVO.
Thank you for putting together this great RR. Looks like you could have used my kind of air cooled twin on the first part of your trip.;-) Congratulations to all of you for keeping those beautiful machines right side up. It looks like I'm going to have to head back west to see a bunch of things that we missed in April. I hope that someday we can share a ride together. Until then, Thanks again for the guidance you gave us.

JC...great pics and narrative!  I have often considered moving to the Pagossa Springs area, as it seems like a great location.  I have spent some time in that whole area...I took a photography "course" back in about '95 through Rocky Mountain School of Photography (highly recommended, and they still offer it, based out of Ouray) and stayed in Ouray for a week.  I added 3 days to the front end, and 3 days to the back end of that trip and did some exploring on my  own prior to, and after the course.  This was back when I carried a 40lb pack full of camera gear...two bodies, multiple prime lenses, tripod, etc., and shot Velvia slide film exclusively (digital was just getting started back then and a camera body was 10K).  The great thing about the course was that each morning and afternoon (this was in late July when the mountain wildflowers at higher elevations were in full bloom) we had professional drivers who drove the group of about 20 people up into the mountains on modified Jeep Comanches.  They had the bed part of the truck set up with bench seating withing a steel "cage" so you wouldn't fall out.  It was an unforgettable experience....taking photos of beautiful places and traveling by Jeep on the dirt/gravel mountain roads mentioned in one of your posts.  We would shoot photos all morning, come back to Ouray, send our film out for developement for the next day, then the instructors would critique our photos from the previous day, along with the class members.  We'd eat lunch, then go back out in late afternoon/evening and shoot until the light was gone at somewhat lower elevations.  All different skill levels, with 3 great instructors, so those who had more skills could work on the "art" part of photography, and others could better learn the basics of camera operation, etc.  The Jeep rides were amazing...scarey at times, as the jeep would be running on roads that had a 2' "shoulder" and then dropped straight down for hundreds of feet.  That's why you see so many Jeeps in that area of the mountains...it's basically the best vehicle for riding those mountain roads due to the relatively short wheelbase, skid plates, etc.  In places, you are climbing sheer rock, almost boulder hopping.  It is not something for the inexperienced to attempt on their own.  But the photo ops are spectacular.  For anyone thinking about going to that area, take an extra day and hire a pro driver to take you up in the mountains, but only after you've given yourself 2-3 days at at least 7-8K altitudes, or you'll get sick from altitudes they drive you to...well over 11K, with a pass or two at 13K.  Not trying to hijack the thread, but here's a couple of examples of what you'll see on the Jeep rides:

I've got hundreds of them, but that gives you some idea of what kinds of photos you can get, or just stuff you get to see when taking one of the Jeep rides offered in the area.  Money well spent, IMO.

Kind of like the guided tour in a 4x4 through Monument Valley.....well worth the $! :2vrolijk_21:

None of us got sick at those 11,000' passes but I think we all noticed the thin air.  You'd walk 100' feet back down the road to get a photo shot and by the time you got back to your bike you were panting like you'd just run the 100 yd. dash for the first time in 40 yrs. ;D    Even in those little towns that were high up....Lake City and Creede....just walking a block or two and back you'd be all winded.

After a week or so in high altitudes, we were all doing pretty good. :2vrolijk_21:

Yea, the first time I was out there, I got off the Jeep to get some photos in an Alpine Meadow and got dizzy after walking 100 yards with my camera backpack on.  After then, I just took it real slow.  About 10 years ago, I did a backpacking trip up to the Weminuche Wilderness (you were looking at the area when you were at Molas Pass on the Million Dollar Hwy) and was hiking with a 50lb pack up to as high as 13K.  I had trained for 3 months to build up my red blood cell count, plus I took Diamox for two days prior and two days during the trip.  I didn't get altitude sickness, but my buddy did...not a dangerous case, but enough to make him feel like crap a couple of days.

Diamox works...well, it helps...and you can ask your doctor for a 6 day supply of it if you explain what you're about to do.  And drink LOTS of water.

At my age now, and in the shape I'm in now, I would need more than Diamox... :huepfenlol2:

That whole area of CO is just about the prettiest place I've ever visited.  The Canadian Rockies might tie it...but in a different way.  The towns are so cool in that area of CO though...lots of history and neat places to eat/stay.  It's on my Bucket List to get back out there again.

The end of the day in Ouray we meet to talk about leaving in the morning headed WEST and home. It was one of two longest day riding and was getting hot. I push my point to skip breakfast and burn a tank of gas asap leaving at 6am. Got everyone to agree (with a few resevervations ) At about 6;30 am drove by a road kill ,Mountian lion, never expected that and would have liked to stop for a photo of Donnie Dep holding it up but i made such a big deal of putting on some mile before it hit 90 i didn;t stop now i wish i would have.---AK

We met these two guys at a gas station near the Nevada state line.  They were headed west as well and inquired if we knew about the gas stops on this route.  I already had the gas stops researched since they’re far and few between on this route.

None of us had ever seen a Harley as loaded down as this guy’s Road King.  It was incredible, all the stuff that he had on this bike.  On the right rear passenger floorboard he had an ice chest strapped on.  I saw a tent, sleeping bags, sleeping mat, camp stove, lantern, etc.

His buddy’s little bike was pretty well loaded down also.  We leap frogged these guys from Utah, all the way across Nevada….

We’re headed down the Extraterriastrial Highway……a very desolate and barren highway for the next 250 miles…..just us and the aliens……

The Little A’ Le’ Inn is out in the middle of nowhere and it’s a couple hundred miles across there with no gas in between.  However, the owners of the Little A Le Inn keep a number of 5 gallon gas cans full for the motorcyclists.  You can turn south about 7 miles, 25 miles back and go to Ash Springs for gas but there isn’t a sign that tells you that if you don’t know from experience.  If you happen to miss Ash Springs then you better stop at the Little A Le Inn and ask them for a can of gas or you’ll be bleached bones in no time.   This is a part of America where you may not see another car for an hour or two.

The locals…….

How funny JC this little town that has alien's everywhere!  Do they claim to have seen one?  And what's with the little furniture that you're sitting on?  Great pictures and I didn't realize that there were places out west where you can drive roads for miles and never see another car.

See the link I provided above or do a google search for "Extraterestrial Highway".  They claim more UFOs sighted on this road than anywhere else in the world and that doesn't speak to the dead cows that you might see laying along side the road.

We’d all passed through Tonopah, Nv. a number of times.  Nothing to exciting there and usually very hot.  Normally it’s just a gas stop and keep moving.  However, in this case we’d already been riding all day long and in triple digit temps so…………………Tonopah would be our home for this evening.    Our reservations were at the #1 rated lodging on Trip Advisor……

OPEN RANGE?

If you don't want animals (cows, sheep, horses, donkeys, camels, elephants, etc.) on your land then you need to fence your land to keep them off.

http://www.unce.unr.edu/publications/files/ag/2010/fs1069.pdf

Livestock on Highways
Livestock owners are also exempted from damages related to animals on highways passing through open range. A.B. 436 (Chapter 301, Statutes of Nevada 1965), defined open range and further provided that an owner of any domestic animal running on open range has no duty to keep the animal off any highway traversing or located on open range, nor may the owner be held liable for any damages caused by any collision between a motor vehicle and an animal on such highway. In fact, motorists that hit and maim or kill livestock on highways on open range are liable to the livestock owner for damages to the animal.

Thanks for sharing the experience!

What a wonderful country we live in and have the opportunity to enjoy.  For those that have been blessed with the opportunity to encounter these areas I am confident that it brought back some fond memories.  For the vast amount of people who may fall into the other catergory allow these photographs, information, insight and planning to serve as a means of inspiration.  Perhaps you will have this occasion in your future or at least parts of it should you desire and have the means for it.

One of the many blessings of this site for me is to receive this type of benefit.  The wisdom, experience and vision of others have allowed me to make the most of my journeys and plan those yet to come.

And with that I will begin to plan another future journey and thanks to all that shared

:2vrolijk_21: x2 - one of the benefits of living in New Mexico is that I've been able to enjoy riding all of the routes traveled by JCZ and the gang. What a wonderful country. Looking forward to my route to Spokane for the West Coast GTG!!!

JC,

Thanks for sharing your trip.   Awesome pictures!!!    BTW,  I remember the Bridgeport Jamboree very well.   Spent several days there one night!!!!  Used to attend regularly!!!!!

X2 or X3.  I remember one year wearing every piece of clothing I had inside my sleeping bag and still being too cold to sleep.  Ahhh, good times!

I remember one year, it rained hard.  It was in the evening, had been raining all day.  Got to the campground and our tents were full of water and our sleeping bags were floating.  Grabbed the bags and headed back in to town, to the laundrymat.  Everybody was either in their underwear or butt naked.  A bunch of women started out behind a blanket......that didn't last long. ;D  The good ol' days! :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks for bringing back some great memories. I traveled a lot of these roads and saw a lot of the territory you visited when I was over there in 2003 for Harley's 100th.

Exactly the reason I do these ride reports.....for people to reminisce and to entice others to get out there and ride further, longer distances to see those places that you've always wanted to see but never have.   :2vrolijk_21:
