Title: Rain Sock??
Post by: 15FLHXSE on June 08, 2019, 10:48:46 AM
With the 19 CVO Road Glide I just picked up, I received the bag liners, rain cover, and a bluetooth comm...but no rain sock for the breather.  My 15 CVO Street Glide did come with one, and a sock comes with the heavy breather if you buy it from HD parts.  Wanted to confirm it was supposed to come with the bike before asking the dealer to look for it.  So, did the rain sock come with your bikes?

Yes, on both my '12 SE SG and my '15 SERGU both of which stayed or still stay in the original bag they came in.

Right, I never actually used mine on the 15 cvo SG either...but, it was a different breather and somewhat protected behind the lower fairing.  This new cvo RG doesn't have the lower fairing to protect it from the elements, and the heavy breather puts it right out there where it could slurp up some rain.  Just thought it should have come with the new bike.

according to the owner's manual, it doesn't come with one.  but we all know how accurate their printed documentation can be.  be interesting to see what other owner's of 2019s come up with.

I looked into this when I purchased my Heavy Breather from one of the members here to install on my 18 SERG and was told no, the MOCO cheaped out.

Rain sock is not included.  It would have cost them .25 cents.

Correct, no rain sock comes with the SERG. If you order the same breather to put on a bike it comes with a rain sock...? Dealer told me I really didn’t need one unless I was riding in rain for an extended period of time. While that is never a goal we all know it happens. I bought the rain sock, $39..

Did you go with the 29400318 sock?  It looks like it has the correct angle.    Link below just to see a good pic of it.

My '19 did not come with one either.

An additional benefit of running a rain sock is that it also acts as a pre-filter, keeping the bigger particles from clogging up the actual air filter and thus extending the intervals for complete cleaning of that filter.  It's much simpler to just remove and clean the pre-filter on a regular basis versus removing and thoroughly cleaning the actual K&N filter.  I've adopted the same idea on my lawn mower, with a simple foam pre-filter protecting the actual paper air filter.  Now the actual air filter looks almost as good at the end of a season as it did when I first installed it.

Will be using this idea on several small gas engines. Thanks.

I’m out of town and do not have access to the rain sock at this time. It does look like the one in your link. I can check on Thursday of this week.

Great idea about running it as a pre-filter..

It does not come with one on the 2019.

One more cost cutting measure while raising the price.

I did not know the 2019's did not come with one and neither did my dealer.  When I got my bike home and unloaded the saddle bags I noticed one was not there, went back to the dealer to ask about it.  They told me they didn't know where it was so they ordered one and gave it to me.  Now I see this thread and realize why It was not there.  I kind of feel bad now.

I picked up the 29400318  over the weekend and it fits our bikes perfectly.   It is a little pricey though for a mesh little sock!

Those dealership folks continue to amaze with their responses to questions.  Plain and simple, Harley chose to save a couple bucks by eliminating the rain sock.  It still does come with the kits they sell to add the Heavy Breather to bikes that don't have it stock.  I guess they didn't think they could afford to keep including them in the bargain basement prices they charge for that new bike these days.  :rolleyes3:

Agree with Jerry on that one!
