Title: legend suspension
Post by: jcd520 on January 11, 2018, 11:40:41 AM
Legend suspension has a couple new products ---------
specifically designed for the 21" knockout wheel bikes. One is for the 2018 cvo rg's specifically and the other is for bikes upgraded to 21" wheels like maybe a street glide or rg special.
I have ordered the front cartridge kit for the 2018 cvo rg for my bike as well as some 13" legend revo A rear shocks. part #'s are 0414-0544 for the cartridge kit, and 1310- 0959 for the shocks. I spoke with them on the phone at length about the setup and oredered pretty much immediately after my conversation. I will post my results here as soon as I get them and get it all installed. Can't wait. The bike as it sits is just a little too harsh ----abrupt--- would be the more appropriate word.

I really like mine in my older bagger, 09.  After addressing the rear.  How bad the front was from HD really showed up.

I took and I suggest taking the time to set up your preload.  There is a chart for weight but I set mine up by actual sag.  Takes some time because there is some install/ uninstall time but it was well worth it.  I did this all dry because the oil is only used for lube.

Second best set up I have ever rode on a Harley bagger.

Got it all installed.....set preload on the cartridges at 1 turn.....sag on rear shocks at 1 inch as directed....rebound on 3 (factory setting)....rode it 100 miles today and could tell the difference as soon as I rode out of my shop.
Ive never had ohlins but these legends are amazing......glad I bought them. Gonna back off the preload on the rear a little tomorrow and soften the rebound 1 click.....should make it perfect. What a difference on this 18 rg.........!!!!!!!

It is a coil type suspension with pre-load adjustment and rebound adjustment.

Any more updates on handling I’ve talked to some people about suspension and I have been really contemplating this route as it’s designed for 21” wheel bikes. I was going to just do the rear 13” shocks but they suggest doing both do you notice the front suspension being worth the extra 1000 bucks? Also did you do the front fork cartridge install if so how hard is it ?

Installed Legend suspension on a 14 Limited.  Front and back. Was very happy with the Legend suspension.

Bump this question...I'm considering also.

If you install the cartridge yourself, and you mostly ride solo, only set the pre-load 1 turn.  If you ride solo a lot, I found that if you set preload higher, like say 2 turns, it creates a little harsher ride.  Still a great suspension upgrade compared to stock.

By the way, I am installing the Legend Aero suspension in my 2018 Road Glide.  I have also done some other mods to my bike this winter.  I will be changing the lowers and slider covers to gloss black, and I have changed the front blinker housings to gloss black.

I am going to video my install of the parts, including the Legend Aero suspension and will post to my YouTube channel,
Chops Ahoy

Went with the 21"front end kit and 13"in the rear.     Amazing difference on the new road glide. So much better than the stock stuff.    Pricey but really worth it.     Stuart.  :2vrolijk_21:

Same set up on my 18 Gunship RG....hardtail'ish jolt is gone. Very smooth and solid feel. Anxious to trip evaluate....

I am very happy that I went with legend. Absolutely the best upgrade I could have done. Wasn't happy at all with the stock ride at all.  Stuart.

Have Legend on my 2010, one of the best modifications that I made to the bike.  Considering on the new bike as well, but don't know if I should go to the air ride or not?

Mike. The 13 " coils in the rear are amazing. They are adjustable and so comfortable. Can't beat this set up.  Go for it. You will never regret it.  Stuart.

Does it also improve the Front end on your 19 SERG?  Did you get the one designed for the 21 Kockout front end?

Figured going an extra inch on the rear would be a big improvement.

Yes Dave.  I went with the specified front end kit for the CVO 21"wheel.    Best thing I have done to to this bike. It's soooo much a better ride and handling. The upgraded 13"rears just make it better and better.  Stuart.

Thank you for the information.  Seems everyone who has done this front end on the 18/19 SERG has said it helps with the harshness of the front.  Makes me want to do this.  Guess I need to start saving.

I know the rears would be a big improvement as I did Ohlin on the rear and AXEO on the front of my 13 king and love the ride of that bike.

Yes.  Harshness is a good word for it. But the handling really is improved alot.  Stuart.

...did a 150 mile spin yesterday. I'm liking the smooth-gyro feel better each time I'm out. Happy I sprung for the front Dave. Buy once cry once as they say...

On my 2015 CVO Street Glide I had Ohlins 13inch (set at (12 3/4) length in the rear (tool preload adjustment) and Ohlins cartridges in the front set up by Howard. Absolutely the best suspension set up I have had! On my 2019 CVO Street Glide I went to Super Shox on the rear (hand adjustable preload) relocates the shock mount to maintain ride height and Legends cartridges up front since Ohlins does not have their cartridges available yet. I am happy with the Super Shox as compared to the Ohlins, and while the Legend cartridges are a major improvement over stock in my opinion they are not as good of ride as the Ohlins fork cartridges that Howard provided me. Just my opinion.

I noticed that the stock suspension on my 18 CVO RG was better than the factory setup on my 11 CVO SG. Then at about 2500 miles the harshness seemed to decrease quite a bit and the suspension settled in and has stayed somewhat the same since but even though it is better it's still quite harsh, so.......
After doing some research and especially after reading this thread, I just bit the bullet and ordered a set of 13" REVO A's from Brian at Horny Toad HD for the best discount I could find plus free shipping.

I love this site, but the dues here is expensive! LMAO

I just installed my Revo A 13's last night and used a set of 1" lowering blocks, set the sag at 12" as instructed and went for a short ride. About 1/2 way through I stopped and reset the rebound from 3 to 2 and it was much better. Adding the lowering blocks kept about the same ride height as stock (maybe a hair shorter) so kickstand works perfect and lean angle seems the same as well. Only a few miles for now but I'll report back after I get some more time in.

I know you're not a fan of these blocks Jerry and I understand why but i wanted the extra travel that the 13" Revo A's offered but love the factory stance of my bike.

Here is a link for the blocks for the curious;

Well, after a few hundred miles with these 13" Revo A shocks and lowering blocks I found that the rear suspension, as much as I wanted this combination to work out, just wasn't gettin it. So I removed the blocks and reset the sag and put the rebound adjustment back to "3" and went for about a 150 mile back road ride. OK now we're talking!
I highly recommend these shocks, what a difference. They were better than stock with the blocks, but now they are waaay better. By the way I weigh about 215lbs. and my bags are some what full most of the time.

So, Jerry your research and opinions that you take the time to share with us on this site are very, very much appreciated. I wish that Neil and the guys could find an appropriate honor to bestow to you.

Thanks for all you do!
