B B....from my reading on the subject, the E III's are not true radials, at least the ones that fit our bikes, but are LIKE radials in their construction.  From everything I've read about them, both here and elsewhere, they are very good tires.  I guess the only down side to them would be availability on the road from a HD dealer, though most Metric stores carry plentiful supplies of them.  They are on the top of my list at this point when the time comes to reshoe my bike.

Someone feel free to correct me on the radial issue for these tires if I'm mistaken...

Thanks Terry,
Grover ( Mark) explained that radial tires smooth out most of that thud you get when you hit a dip or a pothole you didn't see coming. If anyone can quote the correct tire sidewall info on Dunlop Elite III's to fit stock 16" rims front and rear. I'd appreciate it. As I understand you have to run radial/radial. You cannot mix so if the Elite III's mimic radials then the same would hold true - - correct ?

That's my understanding, B...the radials behave differently enough that I would not want a difference between front and rear, not to mention the tread design is completely different, so that would be an issue as well.

I put the Metzeler ME880's on my 03 SERK a couple of years ago, and went up one size in the rear, and I have had awfully good luck with them.  Just now replaced the rear because we're going to FL in about 3 wks, but it still had 2-3,000 miles on it, and was right at 12,000 miles when I took it off.  I know I could have rode it in FL, but I don't like to ride on thin tires especially when I'm that far from home.  Plus I change my own and a new rear is only about $110 from Ron Ayers, shipped.  A lot cheaper than fixing me or the bike later.

Brian, right before Maggie Vally I had a pair of the E III tires installed.  Local Honda shop was the best deal I could find.  Total was $272 and some change I think.  They have a regular "special" that tire purchase includes mount and balance and they do it for any bike that rolls in; not just their Goldwings and other stuff.  So that was the complete cost.

B B   this is where I ordered mine from   http://www.motoxoutlet.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=975
The size that fits our bike is MU90B16 Rear
The Cost from the above web site is    Tire 96.99   Shipping 15.00  Total 111.99
Most Harley shops carry this tire along with the original stock tire as well or the ones I have been in.  The only problem is that they want
as much a 190.00 for the darn thing....I have a friend that works for a motorcycle shop and his cost from Tucker Rockey is 85.00 and some change
and Free Fright so it hard for me to give over twice as much for it from a HD dealer and still have to pay to put it on....
B B  hopes this helps

B B...In checking a couple of web sites, you should be able to get them both for around 200 bucks, give or take 20, depending on shipping.

Looking at the charts, you will want the MU90B16 on the rear, rating of 78H, or 930lbs @40PSI; for the front, MT90B16, 72H.

These tires actually have a higher load rating than the stock 402's.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Of course, Los Dragon sure would look good with a pair of new wheels and 18" radials.... ;D :carrot:

Here's link to Dunlops website to describe the tire a bit.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding is that Metzlers are a harder compound which reduces grip but increases tire life.  On the other end of the spectrum are the Avons which are gumballs..., i.e., a very soft compound with exceptional grip at the cost of tire life because they wear quickly.  The Dunlops are the compromise between the two.

Is this the understanding of others?

I think I'd place the Metz between the Avon and Dunlop in terms of tire wear and compound.  I've run all three brands and the Metzlers seem to wear faster for me than the Dunlops.  I like the feel of the Metzlers over the Dunlops as do others but some folks swear by the Dunlops.  I'm seriously thinking of the E3's from Dunlop as a replacement for my Metzlers but haven't heard how they wear.

Well, I just replace my factory Dunlops with Avons (150 in rear) after 7300 miles (picked up my scoot 9/1/06).  I have run metzelers before on my 05 RKC (the factory rear got about 7500 miles as well) and after 2 rear changes they got about 7500 miles each.  Handling of the metz's far exceed stock Dunlops in all weather (especially good in rain or grooved pavement). I wanted to check out Avons as the 150 has a higher load rating than the 150 metz.

I weigh in at 245 lbs (ding!) with no passenger and I dont ride very aggressive - I've never done any burnouts.....

I'll keep the group informed on how well/many miles I get on this Avon 150 rear as I probably need to replace it before Nelson this summer.  If it does poorly, I'll probably replace them both with E3s for my summer tour.

Cheers,

Mark

I wasn't real sure about the look but I have to tell you that the radial tires on the 07 serk handle great. They don't follow road grooves like my older road king. :2vrolijk_21:

I'm sorry, but my eyes glaze over when I start reading tech info on tires. Someone be a nice CVO bro or sis here and just tell me what sizes I need front and rear for my 2007 Road Glide in Dunlop Elite III . That way I can take LD down to the local Honda dealer, tell him what size tires I want mounted and have it done. Oh yeah, did I mention the Honda shops are cheaper on tires than the H-D shops ?

Thanks
