2003 SERK 103 Cam Choice
« on: August 08, 2008, 10:17:41 AM »

I currently have a 2003 SERK with a 103 with Rineharts, SEAC, and Power commander..looking for a little more power out of the beast without doing headwork, pistons; etc..

I have been reading up on gear drive cams in the forums and I am leaning towards the Yuill Brothers package.  I do have a concern though about buying the package and then have the crank runout be out of spec..

I guess my questions are is Yuill Brothers cam the cam of choice for an all stock motor?  Is it better to go with a gear drive cam or stick with chain drive?

If I go with the Yuill brothers package worth the $900+ price to get a little more bite out of the 103?  I called Zippers and talked to them about the 575..  they recommended an installer down the road from them to install their package and of course all he wanted to do was upsell me on getting the Thundermax EFI system..  which kid of rubbed me the wrong way.

Has anyone else done cams only and gotten decent hp/torque in return?

The 575's or the Yuill Brothers are your cam choices.   Several of us have done these cams with gear drive with no runout problems on the 103's..  You will be pleased with either.  Do a search and many posts can be found.

2005 SEEG stock numbers:  Tq. - 95, HP - 90.
Did the cams and Feuling oil pump:  Tq. 115, HP 95.

The best part is the stock set up torque hit max at 4200.  With the cams, the torque his 110+ at 3200 and carries it through to over 4500.

I have the cams from Yuill Brothers and works awesome in my 2006 103" Motor

If I were in your shoes I would call Brad Yuill and get his thoughts on what you need - Good Guy

Keep in mind that for more performance and reliability if you want to go more than you already have with Scremin Eagle heads, stroked engine, SE cams. You need to look at breathing, exhaust and remapping. However I'd recommend the 575 cams as it's a bolt in and accommodates the shortcomings of the CVO set up.You'll be very happy with this one.

If you are not doing headwork and you want a bolt in type of cam ... these 2 really are good choices the choice will really depend on your riding style.

Do you want the power at 2400 or at 3000.

Zippers comes in sooner than the Yuill Cam and the Yuill cam runs out longer than the Zippers cam.

Used both, and did the original testing for Zippers on the 575's.

Zippers is a bit noiser on the valve train and the motor runs slightly hotter than it would with the Yuill Cams by about 10 degrees.

When you change out your cam if you do nothing else make sure you put in new lifters.  stock harleys or feuling or S&S and all new bearings they come in a set.

CB, your mention of them reminded of a conversation here awhile back.  It wasn't a long one but there was some information shared.  Can find it here:

Nice man! Comes on a little late, but that thing must pull like a mutha keeping it above 3 grand! Keep the revs up to ride "on the cam", and you'll be smilin' all the time! :2vrolijk_21:

Yeah,
It don't like to be below 2 grand when going down the street.
But when out on the road keep it around 25 hundred and up it pulls like a somebitch.
I was at a local bike nite and there was a drain spout with a little water running across the lot and just for giggles I cracked it in the water and it lit the tire right up and smoked it for about 80ft no problem.
Some chick got it on her video cam and it looked fricken awesome.
I tried to get her to E-mail it to me.
After I did that these other people tried with there 88's but it just didn't work for them.

I had the same Green/Black '96. That bike was quick too. I flipped it in a rear tire blowout at 80. Threw it in a truck and took it home. Took all the broken chit off, changed the bars, and 200 mph duct taped the headlight and any other broken chit. Rode the bike like that for 2 months til the parts came in. Took it to the track and did 13.9 that way too! I loved my '96! :huepfenjump3:

Try to get the video and post it here. It'll be fun seeing you in action with that SERK! :2vrolijk_21:

HeHe!!! Not back in those days. I never heard of digital anything yet!!! ;D ;D ;D

Probably have some old prints buried somewhere. 28 years worth of chit piled up in this house (garage mostly) now. I guess I'll find stuff whenever I move or clean the garage out, whichever comes first! ::) :o :D ;)
