Bassani Exhaust
« on: June 12, 2010, 05:13:24 PM »

I just installed high performance Bassani slip ons and HD performance racing tuner. I love the look but I wish it was a little louder. Does anyone have any ideas to make it louder? I've read on some threads that some have removed the CAT. If I do this would it make it louder and would I need to re-tune? Also where is the CAT located. Thanks for any assistance.

I would say you will need to replace the head pipes. There is a ton of reading on this since the new x pipe.

Personally, I would (and did) replace the head pipes instead of removing the CAT.  Yes you will open the pipes up and it will be a little louder by removing the CAT and yes you will need to retune as you've taken away a major restriction in the pipes.  The cat is located in the collector (the area where the front head pipes join into, to where the rear pipes split out of.  The whole collector area is filled with the CAT.  If you like the stock look of the pipes, I recommend you get the Fulsac X pipe which uses the stock heat shields and you'll look just like it came off the showroom floor.  I put the Vance and Hines Power Duals on my bike.

I went with '09 catless headers.  Stock look and great dyno numbers.

Do you have an 09 bike?  If not how did you solve the different O2 sensor issue between the 2009 and 2010 models?

I have a 2010 SESG.  '09 exhaust assembly (part # 66848-09) was used with "Adapters O2 Sensor 2010 FL" (part # 1861-0594).  Dealer re-routed wiring since O2 sensors are in different location on the '09 exhaust.  Also installed a SERT and V&H Hi-Outputs.  Dyno'd at 97 HP and 113+ max torque.  Runs strong, looks and sounds great - at least to me and others who have seen/heard it.  Also mellows out at cruise so stereo w/Hog Tunes comes through loud and clear.

Good numbers  :2vrolijk_21: .  Didn't know the MoCo had an adapter for the O2 sensors.  That's some good info to share because there are a lot of people that would like to do what you have done but didn't because of the different size and location of the sensors.
