Progessive 12.6" - 416-1607A Shock
« on: June 06, 2011, 05:54:20 PM »

Hi,
Has anyone installed a set of Progressive 416 series air shocks on a FXR2/3/4 ??? Progressive says no. I see on line that the shocks fit FLH and Sportsers.  They fit older FXR. Why not the newones? I have already bought them and waiting for delivery. I would think with minor adjustment they could work. My original shock is 12" the new is 12 1/2" eye to eye. Any help on adapting or stud changes would be helpful.
Thanks,

Tank-

How did the shock situation workout for you?  Don't see how it wouldn't work.  You may have gotten blocked by a rep, who had no concept of the FXR and/or practical applications.  I recently swapped out my stock Fox shocks on the FXR3 to 13.5+" Works Performance brand shocks.  In addition, I went with their comparable-complementing front-end kit they have.  Unlike most riders, I went higher rather than lower, which was the original thought of E. Buell, when designing these bikes.

Hi James,
The shocks monted fine. Used spacers and bushing suppile with the kit. The shocks come very close to the belt sprocket. Had to cut away some of the belt guard because it hit the shocks. The guard did hit the rubber boot cutting it and slightly taking some metal off the shock. Replaced the boot. Had a problem with the air leaking over a couple of days. If you put 30 psi in it would be a little lower two days later but ususlly is good all day ride. I put a air gauge on handlebar clamp to monitor the air pressure as I ride. Used a tee and othe fittings.
Other than the slow leakdown, I am happy, rides better than the old Smooth Ride Air Shocks. Looks good too.
