2003 SERK wheel question

I'm getting ready to put new rubber on my bike. I don't really like the highly polished chrome look of the centerline wheels and was thinking about vaperblasting them to a soft mat or  brushed finish.  Does anyone know if these are clear coated from the factory with anything?  I ran some mothers mag polish along the edge of the rim and it turned black right away, which leads me to believe they are bare aluminum, however, when I sprayed them with aluminum brightener  it ran off the center of the wheel without changing color?
Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

I believe these are not plated, just polished cast aluminum alloy.
