I hit a car
« on: September 01, 2006, 09:02:43 PM »

Well i was going through an intersection and a little car forgot to stop and just cut my way.I hit the brakes and lean the bike she still kept on going and finally i hit her and went down.I hurt my knee but just deep road rash.I think i am very lucky since i had my armoured leather jacket on me and this was the first time I wore it since mid may.It really took a lot of beating but im not hurt anywhere except my knee.I wish i had some leather pants on with some pads on knees.Good news is i wasnt on my fatboy but on my vrscr.Bike has almost no damage except left hand controls and left mirror.Well left side bag has some minor scratches now.I am amazed how those tiny pads at elbows and shoulder could protect me from harm.I litteraly hit the car with left side of my body and the door got bent and the side window blew.I skid on my left shoulder and elbow nothin happened till i started to roll and my knee hit the tar.Oh i had fingerless gloves with very thin leather and they did their job well too.No injuries. This was my first accident and now i know the necessity to waer protective gear while riding. It really makes a big difference.By the way the lady driving the car siad she was busy talking to her son wich sat next to her and never saw me coming altough she looked at my direction. She said she couldnt notice me eventough she looked cause she was looking for cars only.
I rode back home after the incident that a good thing.Cant shift other than first gear tough.
Ride safe and wear protective gear.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Sounds like all your safety equipment did the job and your injuries were minor. Definitely a testimony of how wearing appropriate gear can limit injuries. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] This lady sounds like the typical cager not paying full attention while driving and not even looking out for vehicles other then cars. >:(

Exactly a lot of drivers wont even notice us.Not because they hate bikers its just that their brain wont process the info cause they are somehow preprogrammed to watch out for cars or trucks. [smiley=drink.gif]

Major bummer Altugo but glad you're well enough to share. Major lesson there for those in shorts and sandals. How many times have we heard "I didn't see him"? Another reminder for us all.

Hey Altugo, so sorry to hear of you going down, but very glad to hear you suffered nothing serious in the way of personal injuries.  Good judgement on the protective gear payed off.   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]spyder

Al...sorry to hear about your accident, but so glad you were able to walk away from it, though hobbled a bit.  You will be in my thoughts as I travel this weekend.  Get well, and hope you get the bike repaired and back on the road soon.  A lesson for us all to wear the right gear!

Altug,

Of course sorry to read of the minor damage to you and the bike.  Screw the minor damage though.  You not only didn't get squashed you rode home.  When any accident ends with your riding away it is a good day.  Glad you're ok.  How long before the soreness wears off and you're back in the saddle again?

Hey guys thanks for your good wishes and support. Its amazing that almost all of you have a similar story about recklessness of others and it seems like you dont need to go a long way back to remember.Few posts here tells about some very recent storys. It is a everyday problem that we are facing. When i hit the ground i was so scared cause i never knew how it would end up till i reached a full stop. This time i was extremely lucky.I hope to be ready to ride again in 10 days cause national hog will do a ride to the little resort town that i live and i dont wanna miss that. There are 30 bikes reseved already.I will post pics for sure. Altugo,

Been there, done that Bro. Glad to hear you weren't more seriously hurt - but I know that road rash sux. Doc gave me a Silver Sulfadiazine, or "Silvadine" burn cream that is working magic on mine. No scabs means not much itching! and the healing comes quick.

Heal well and get back out there soon!

ps... he said jokingly, "I think cagers would take a lot more notice of us if we could shoot at them when they get close to doing something stupid!"

this one's for you.

;) Sorry to read of the minor damage to you and the bike.  Good news is  that your experience and instinct  kept you out of major harms way and your equipment kept you well protected. Forget the minor damage, you rode home.  When any accident ends with your riding home on your own bike, is a good day.  Get the scoot fixed and keep the shiny side up.  [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=jalapeno.gif]
