Brake light problem

My brake lights started blinking/steady on intermittently.  Sometimes tapping the brake pedal will turn them off for a short period.  Has anyone experienced this?

Tapping which end?  Front lever or rear pedal?  Whichever end turns them off start looking at and around that brake light switch.
