Title: $600 emblems
Post by: Twolanerider on March 05, 2005, 10:33:03 PM
Especially since putting on the big tour pak I'd thought that the big space on the bag of the pak and the back of the saddlebags made for a pretty large field with nothing there but a whole bunch of dark red.  Just needed to be broken up a little.

Still got coming from Iron Braids a pair of leather conchos done in two shades of red and a gold with a short tassle to go on each side of the back of the tour pak but picked up today the emblems I'd wanted to use to go along with them.

These eagles come in a larger and a smaller size and the smaller ones fit pretty good to help break up the back of the saddlebags.  Think I'm going to like them ok.

Here can be seen (but not too well because it's a crappy picture) the back of the tour pak with the little chrome emblem that got added.

And here's why the emblems cost $600.00.

2lane,

I was wondering how those emblems would look on the bike and I like where you mounted them. Which one is on the tourpak? I can't see it very well. Maybe when conchos are on you can get another pic. Love that stand too! Surprised you would needed an extra ramp to get on it.

Got the bike up and couldn't find the floor on either side.

Did you mean that you rode the bike onto the lift?
Wouldn't pushing the bike onto the lift be safer?
Have never thought of riding it up onto the lift.
In 27 years of Harley's I have never seen a mechanic ride a bike onto a lift.
Must have been that sheltered life I lead. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I have a Direct lift and I use a scrap piece of laminated beam to add to the ramp so nothing scrapes.

Cannibus_man that's a great idea! I have always worried about the time from clamping your bike wheel in the vise and finishing up with the straps. To much time for things to go wrong!

I've seen mechanics push them on and ride them on.  No real favored method it seems.  Have done it both ways on this lift already and I'm actually much more comfortable and more stable riding it on.

Pushing it on the bike has to lean to me a fair amount.  Instead of a wheel vise I used a BikePro wheel chock that actually holds the bike up.  Really don't even need the straps to hold it stable with that.  But the bike needs to be pretty straight to load up in to the chock.  That was a chore pushing it by hand.  Especially with the little side pads I set beside it riding it on is simple.  Running it up in to the wheel chock has everything solid and upright.

I'd not even thought about hanging a couple of straps from the ceiling for the extra support that Cannibus described using when he rides his up on his lift.  That's a great idea.  With the wheel chock I hung on this lift, however, it becomes fortunately unnecessary and makes loading the bike a very easy one man operation without having to worry about balance or upright stablity.

I can then easily step down without having to worry about the bike.  You can push from either side and it won't go anyplace.  I still put a strap on each side after I climb down.  But that's because I'm a big chicken.

If I had a wheel vise on the front I'd almost certainly push it on or have to do something like Cannibus described to help hold the bike upright while climbing down to tighten the vise and put the other straps in place.  Using the self-supporting wheel chock in the front, however, makes riding it on the only way to go.  Too simple not to.

perhaps i'm due for a better  front tire chock..Actually now that I've  been riding  the bike up onto the lift almost on a daily basis for several months now  it seems simple.
that bike pro chock looks like a good idear..I could use a better wheel mount to aim at
when shootin  up the ramp. as it is now i leave the vise open about an extra 2 inches
then after the ride up, i secure it

BLM, it's from a company called Superior Lifts.  They do mainly car lifts.  Two post, four post and other stuff.  But they also do these bike lifts.  They're certainly nothing fancy.  Just plain steel plate and an 80" deck.  But it's well made and has a plenty of lift capability.

Couple of things made it really nice for me though.  Their price without the wheel vise was only $525.00 ($50.00 more with the vise) if you tell them you saw it on eBay.  Their non-eBay price is $120.00 more----go figure  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]?.  But they're only about 35 miles from my home.  So I didn't have any shipping cost to get it.  Actually came away with a nice brand new lift for only $525.00 and a little over an hour's road trip.  Actually had it home and out of the truck within two hours of the moment of "purchase inspiration."

Oh yeah, there was also a hundred bucks for the wheel chock.

Thanks 2Lane....good price on the lift.  I had talked to Direct Lift out of Fort Worth on the Cycle Pro and they were at $595 plus shipping with the wheel vise included, but the shipping was almost $200.  After weasling around, I got the home boy price of $500 (even though I'm displaced in FL) and learned that they keep a warehouse in Orlando.  They agreed to let me pick up there and save the shipping.  Guess that's going to be my best deal even though I don't need the vise and will install my Condor drive-on chock.  Thanks for the info.  By the way, you might want to look at the "blackjack" jack on the Direct Lift site.  It's made to set on the lift and raise either the front or the rear of the bike, as when rotating the rear wheel to check the primary chain tension etc.

Thanks again.

Good choice  BLM !

I'm very happy with mine.

Paid the 595.00 for mine but got a deal on the acc. jack and no shipping cause it was sent to the Harley shop.

Had an issue with the foot pedal but they air freighted a new one  the next day.
