Title: CB Radio
Post by: jc14299 on November 03, 2019, 05:11:46 PM
When I use my CB, my voice is all distorted.  I try different head sets and it still happens.  Since I use my CB all the time, this is a big problem.  Anyone have this problem when using their CB?
Thanks,
Jack

It's possible the CB module is going bad. I had a similar issue this summer. I had other riders telling me my voice was very hard to understand and garbled. I had a slight bend in the antenna. So I had it replaced thinking maybe then wire had broken, but no difference than before. I had also gotten a new Nolan helmet during this time and thought it was from the mic in the helmet. After trying a different head set like you did, I decided that wasn't it either. After talking to my local shop, we decide it could be the CB module itself. They changed out the module and that corrected to problem.

I had to replace my CB module - although it's got a little rubber sealing strip between the lid and the case, mine had not been properly fitted in the groove for it from new, and it let in water.  The position the module sits in is ideal for water to eventually swamp a bit of the board and blow it.  Initially I dried and cleaned the board, then closed it up with the seal fitted properly, and that lasted a while, but eventually, although no more water had got in, it failed.

Although mine is a Rushmore, and the [different] module is located in a different position to pre-Rushmore models, that could still be your problem I guess.  The good news is that pre-Rushmore CB Modules are plentiful and cheap on eBay.  (Rushmount-era ones are decidedly NOT cheap!)

Thank you bigC and Eqcons for your replies, they were very helpful.

While my profile shows a 2008 CVO Ultra, the problem is on my 2016 CVO Limited (need to update the profile).  Since it is under the ESP, I will take it to HD and let them fix it.  I'll be out $50 but that is a cheap price to pay.  Thanks again for your quick response, this was driving me crazy.
