Title: 2011 FLTRUSE opinions needed
Post by: Baldman on March 08, 2019, 06:25:40 AM
I’m about to purchase a CVO Road Glide with 49,000 and wanted to get opinions and pros/cons of this year and model?

I’ve read some about lifters, but would like to hear more.

Thanks!

I did lifters in my 2009 FLTRSE3 at 30,000 when I had one that sheared. It has more to do with the 110 motor than the model. Have 45,000 on it now & other than replacing the compensator pretty much trouble free. That’s my experience anyway.

Thanks!

Anything else I should worry about or consider on the 110 that’s you didn’t mention?

I put new head pipes  & exhaust just so I could get rid of the catalytic converter to help with the heat. Also added an oil cooler with fan. Others may have had different issues I’m sure

I bought my 2011 FLTRUSE new with one mile. At 16,000 mi I hade oil coming out of my air breather. The dealership replaced my cams and lifters along with oil pump and cam plate. They let me pay the difference between stock and upgrade equipment so I chose a Fueling cam plate and pump with T-Man cams, S&S lifters, Screamin Eagle adj. push rods, Fuel moto headpipe, cobra mufflers, and Screamin Eagle tuner and a Dyno. I do regular maintenance with Syn 3 oil and filter and am at 67,000 mi. I also have had the compensator upgraded twice. I have ESP so that was done for the $50 deductable.
My plan is to check and probably replace lifters again soon. Otherwise, I love my bike and plan to keep her rollin'

Thank you everyone for replying.  I know every situation is different, but just wanted to see what results others have had.

I’m torn between this CVO or a new RGU (not a CVO) for a variety of reasons and just weighing things out.

I’ve had a person tell me that the new bikes ride so much better that the new bike should be the one.  So, I’ll also take opinions from those of you that ride the newer ones or have had both and can let me know if there is a night and day difference?

Thanks again!

G’day Baldman,

The 110s seem to have lifters go around 25k miles. Lucille had hers go at 25k & change. Not had any other real probs other than replacing a coolant pump which is no big deal.

I also changed the headers & mufflers   then got a proper tune it made the world of difference.

I recommend having the motor checked before buying.

They are a great bike you will love it.

The blue ones are much cooler mate.

Cheers Tom

Tom, He's talking  about an '11, not a '15 like that ugly abomination you have  ::)

What Tom said is pretty much on though. I had and '11 and it had the lifters and cams replaced at 35k miles. Others have said heat unless the exhaust has been changed and a good tune in it but you'll still get some heat. They're just a hot natured beast.

If your considering a brand new RGU vs that '11, I'd take that new one all day long. It will not have some of the goodies, but for the most part, if you've never had them, you'll never miss them. Big changes between those two bikes. You can have something done to the paint on a new one fairly reasonable so it doesn't look like any other one on the lot.

What OBB said about the choice is pretty well spot on.

What OBB said about Lucille is pure jealousy. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him riding a similar copycat bike that looks like Lucille but not as purty.

As much as I love CVO bikes, I would go new.

First the new 114 motor makes more power, especially torque down low in the RPM range where most people ride.  The M8 is a smoother running motor.  Roll on power is better with the M8.  My 114 M8 stock made more Torque and the same HP as my 110 with a head pipe, mufflers, air cleaner and dyno tune.

Second the front and rear suspension has been improved twice since the used CVO you are looking at.  Front end suspension is way better on the new bike.

Third, brakes are better.  The linked ABS is an improvement.

Thanks for the input everyone!  I traded in my Limited on the “11 CVO.  It’s my first RG, so will see how it goes.
