An old friend send me this pic that he found.  

It's my first new Harley!  A 1976 Bicentinial Edition Sporster.  It came from the factory with that paint scheme.  A gold eagle on black metal flake!  I guess you could even say it was my first Scremin' Eagle!

What a fantastic memory.  

Good friends keep pictures of what we found important at different times in our lives.  I know, I don't have a lot of those pictures myself of my life's adventures.  Your friend coming across this picture and then sending it to you, is a great thing.

Great memory, I also got my first new Harley in 1976.  FLH in black with white fairing and seat.  They had the Bi-Centennial in that model too, black metallic as well, but it came out a few months after I got mine.

Sold it in 1985 and I have regretted it ever since.

My brother had the 76 bicentennial edition Super glide. I loved that bike. The tank decal was awesome. I wish I could find one.

I guess this is kind of sad actually.  But my first bikes were really kind of collectors items.  I mean I collected a little here and a little there and eventually had enough to make a bike that ran.  That being so I honestly don't remember precisely what the first bike was.  Ran through them kind of quickly back then as they had a tendency not to last too long and the memories of the various machines all kind of run together.
