Tri Glide Questions
« on: November 23, 2008, 09:35:21 PM »

As some of you know, my dad just bought a Tri-Glide. I know it's not available as a CVO (YET!) but thought some here with more knowledge than me could help. It has the King Tour Pak which is the same as the SE except paint and luggage rack. The luggage rack has a third light in it. Are there any other option other than HD for a 3rd light? Something to go into the insert (where the SE lettering is)? I know Chip has been looking at the LED Light thread and he may shed some light on this (all pun intended  ;D). HD has the lighted spoiler available & that may be an option. Next, does a stock Ultra come with a rider's backrest? And I think it's missing the garage door opener. Thanks for your input.

AJ,
The standard Ultra or the Tri-Glide do not come with the rider's backrest or the garage door opener.  If you dad wants those two items, he'll have to purchase them.  As far as the lights, other than the spoiler or the LED's in the tour pak rack, I'd go with the LED strip that some of you guys have mounted to your tour packs.  I remember seeing somewhere that Kuryakyn had some LED "side wings" that you can mount on the sides of the tour pack.  You could probably run LED's along the bottom of the fenders also which would give you some lower light on the rear end.   Just some thoughts.

Boy! BUSTED!

Can't go anywhere without AJ catching me.
It is an interesting thread and was just reading up on it.

So I guess saddlebag spoilers don't apply on a trike.

The led strip is an option, and a good one properly installed.

Interesting question AJ, let us ponder a while and get back to you.

Pardon me while I will go to the Vrod Destroyer section and learn a little!

Boy! BUSTED!...

Just keeping you honest Chip!

Charlie, are you talking about the Custom Dynamics lights? Do y'all think they would be better than the spoiler?

Guess I'm a dumbass for not knowing it's a 103

Wonder what a 2009 103" is like ?

Does it have a cat in the head pipe ?

Probably not the 103 of 2005 (best 103 ever IMO) for sure

I'm thinking seriously of buying a 2010.  I know I'm not going to be very happy not being able to ride coast to coast. Thinking that with a trike I might be able to deal with a 500 mile day as I wouldn't have the strain on my lower back of keeping the bike balanced and upright. Be cool as hell to have a stripped down tricked out LD on a trailer behind the trike to get to our gatherings.

AJ  Really look forward to hearing what you think

B B

B B,

I can only give a short 1st impression report. I have only ridden the TG for about 3 miles so far.
Let me preface this by saying I haven't ridden a trike in several years. First thing I noticed was that that the steering was tight. Meaning that it was hard to steer. The rear dual wheels takes some getting used to. It was noticeable when I hit the little reflectors in the road. Not so much as it was bouncing, but I just wasn't expecting it. Fit and finish is very good. I am a little surprised that it does not come with the backrest as this is a must have for this type of bike. I can't comment on the 103 yet as it only has 82 miles on it & I put on 3 of those. I'll update more in the next few days as I get some more saddle time.
HD has tapped into a huge potential market with this offering. Riders that may not have purchased a motorcycle because of stability reasons will want one of these! The older crowd that may have waited in life to buy a bike and thought that it was too late, now have and option that is backed by an industry leading name. I'm glad my dad will be able to enjoy this.

I don't know if they would be better than the spoiler, but you could probably be more creative in the placement of the LEDs (on the bottom edge of the rear fenders for instance) than you can with the factory spoiler.  Although, I do like the looks of the spoiler on the tourpak.  :2vrolijk_21:  Do both AJ...light the back end up nicely with a combination of both.   ;)

I installed a Custom Dynamice LED strip on the support bar under the tour pak about a year ago...  As a running light and brake light.  It is pretty bright at night.  Can't have enough lights at night - expecially from the back.  The custom dynamic's is quality stuff - and easy to work with.   :2vrolijk_21:

Well, let me tell you that I have just spent the best 60 miles of my life on a motorcycle. My dad and I went for a ride today. I never thought this would actually happen as my dad is going to be 68 in a few days and this is the first time he has ridden a Harley. I've got a lot to be thankful for on this Thanksgiving Day.
