Title: Personalized Licence Plates
Post by: hd-dude on December 16, 2005, 10:20:32 AM
There's been a bunch of talk about personalized plates lately so I thought I'd start a thread just for them. Please post a pic of yours here.

Mine has not come yet but here's what it will be:

I am going to order some personalized license plates for my FLHTCUSE and I thought I would post here to see if you guy's have any interesting suggestions for them.  They must be no more than 7 letters or digets in length.  Currently, I am thinking of going with; CVO, CUSE, 103CI, SCREMN, or EAGLE.  Any other thoughts?

The added lights on this one are (red) brakes. I did not want additional signals since I have the run/brake/turn module and the saddle bag spoilers set up to do all three as well. It does come in a version with amber lights on the sides for signals

The Price of Vanity.  [smiley=nervous.gif] When motorcyclist Jim Cara wanted a vanity license tag for his motorcycle that would make people laugh, the self-proclaimed practical joker chose to put "NOTAG" on his plate...but his joke backfired. When the new tag arrived in his mailbox, it was accompanied by an avalanche of Wilmington, Delaware parking violations. "All the traffic tickets say, 'Notice of violation. License number: no tag'," Cara told the News Journal newspaper. City computers, communicating through state Division of Motor Vehicles computers, had finally found an address to send citations for vehicles ticketed for lacking license tags: to Cara's home in Delaware. He has accumulated more than 200 violation notices, ranging from $55 to $125 for violations such as meter expirations. Officials say they are clearing up the glitch, but advised Cara to get a new plate.

In New Jersey you have to have your normal plate first at whatever it costs (truck - car - bike etc) and then you can get a personal or vanity plate.

One time fee of $50.00.

porthole, I picked up one of those hologram plate covers as well, and the hologram was flaking off before i even got it mounted, not very durable on that side, i was thinking of laminating the side with hologram to keep it from flaking, how is yours holding up? oh and by the way this guy sells them all the time the buy now price is $8, he has 10 different styles, i got the Eagle of course.

Eagle

I put the holo to the inside, still looks as good as the day I installed it.

$94 vanity fee, $47 personalized fee, right from the web site, bottom line, vanity was "only" double personalized, and ill still take that beer [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

While I'm only coming up with $50 extra plus $13 more a year, whatever it was, I'm happy I got it. When we cross paths, you got one coming!   [smiley=drink.gif]

AJ,

You do have a lot of military in SC,are you near Charleston, or Shaw AFB? I ordered my plate when I picked up my bike in Oct. It didn't get here until the first week of January. The inmates here must have been on Thanksgiving and X-mas break...lol

By the way you have a cool tag also

That's a cool plate but the bar code worries me.

I get pulled over and the cop walks up with a gun in one hand and a scanner in the other.

 [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
Yeah, well, that's the way the world is going I guess.  Here they've started with those red light cameras a few years ago.  Wouldn't surprize me if the dang things can read the bar code.  Big brother is watching!

I'm trying to think what advantage a bar code would be to law enforcement. A registration check of a tag number would show any wants and warrants. There would be no additional information that could be attached to a bar code that does not already exists. The only thing I could think of is if the alphanumeric letters are distortred.

Well, I pick up my SERK tomorrow and checked with the Ohio BMV today for plates.  Since my bike is black ice, what do you all think about:
ICHOG, OR ICHOT, OR MHMMM.....those are the 3 choices that me and the other half picked out.  What do you all think?

Depends on what you are trying for ICHOG is more" I See Hog" to me than ICEHD or the double meaning ICEVO which to me is I SEE VO or ICE CVO using the CE on both ends.

Just thinking which is always bad.

In New Jersey you have to have your normal plate first at whatever it costs (truck - car - bike etc) and then you can get a personal or vanity plate.

One time fee of $50.00.
For these plates in England they charge between £180+ ($350) to anything up to £10000 ($20,000)  and you cannot make your own as you do they have to be in a certain format

We can't make or own either, can only request the letters & numbers.

So whereabouts in England?

We have friends in the Croydon area and my daughter ran off to be engaged to some bloke from a rock band in merry old.

Heavy Metal - "Godsized" Pretty good band if you like metal. 2 of the members were from 5th Man Down.

My plate here is Maine is "BAGGED".  I was surprised that the state of Maine DMV  actually accepted it as they are very quick to deny anything that they deem as "vulger" or distasteful.

When we were pulled over in Loudon, NH last year the cop at least had a sense of humor when he read the plate.  "You're bagged now pal....."  He was cool and let us go.

Mine (New Hampshire) is "SKULD".  Has obvious HD & skull associations, but it's actually the name of the one of the 3 Norse fate goddesses (the Norns) - in this case she's the goddess of necessity ... and debt!

Is it a gov't issued tag? I've never seen an Irish tag before.

The "Tag" as you say is issued by the dept of transport, it should read "M7 CVO" in a plain font.
I have cheated slightly by printing the plate in Manderin font and also added the Harley logo on the left.

It is a nice plate but the font makes it open to the wrath of the law, as no other information is allowed on the plate.

I like it and they have to catch me first.  :jalapeno:  :cucumber:  :pepper:

Never one to rain on a jarheads parade (as it's not a healthy thing to do).  But your plate is off by a year Marine.  The Continental Congress commissioned two battalions and Samuel Nicholas started the recruitment at Tun Tavern on 10 November.  But it was 1775.

Never one to rain on a jarheads parade (as it's not a healthy thing to do).  But your plate is off by a year Marine.  The Continental Congress commissioned two battalions and Samuel Nicholas started the recruitment at Tun Tavern on 10 November.  But it was 1775.
Run Forrest Run!!! :D Ok we were born in '75 and '76 would have been our first birthday. :P

On November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress commissioned Samuel Nicholas to raise two Battalions of Marines.  That very day, Nicholas set up shop in Tun Tavern.  He appointed Robert Mullan, then the proprietor of the tavern, to the job of chief Marine Recruiter -- serving, of course, from his place of business at Tun Tavern.  Prospective recruits flocked to the tavern, lured by (1) cold beer and (2) the opportunity to serve in the new Corps of Marines.  So, yes, the U.S. Marine Corps was indeed born in Tun Tavern.  Needless to say, both the Marine Corps and the tavern thrived during this new relationship.

Got my confirmation letter in the mail yesterday from the FL/Palm Beach County tax collector after coming back from a week in Myrtle Beach - 10NOV75 is reserved in my name and got the temp plate for the CVO...  (they even send a printout of how it will look).

Now all I have to do is get the bike - better be here this week, Monday was a month since it was picked up for delivery.  :-X

Will post pics to the appropriate threads when it arrives.

Looks good.
One of these days I'm going to stop by PI and take a picture of the 'new' sign out in front of the gate. I noticed it a couple of months ago and never remember to bring the camera in the cage. I live close enough to hear the firing range go hot around 0500 (just when I'm going down ;))

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since you asked, I can't think "CVO" or any permutation thereof means anything except to another Harley owner.  Since you're going with a personalized license plate, why don't you go with something that can be enjoyed by the general public, the outright bulk of your audience?  I would suggest you think out of box - have fun with it!

Cascades Volcanic Observatory

Also CVO is somehow a weird designation for a Commander's rank in the Queen's Royal Victorian Order (someone here told me that one two or three years ago but damned if I remember who).

And in another of those "only from the FAA" kind of moments CVO is the three letter designator for the Albany, OR airport :huepfenlol2: .

Title: Re: Personalized Plates
Post by: kazumdgc on September 28, 2008, 09:56:50 AM
it was not easy. In PA once you get a personalized plate it has to be inactive for 5 years before someone can take it over. We both had to go to the DMV and I had to prove it was my plate and was giving it to my buddy who had to turn in his plate. Then they took my plate and destroyed it only to make a new one in his name. red tape but legal. 6 weeks later he had a new SERK plate.
Lots of hassle but worth it in the long run. :orange:

I (hopefully) own an orange 2009 SERG in 2-3 months.
Already reserved a RG-110 plate for the bike.
3 numbers and 3 letters are the maximum amount for our bike plates over here so I'm happy this combination was not in use.  :)

My truck is DVLDG and my KLR is DVLDG1...

Yea, devil dog was one I was thinking of, but already taken and hard to get it and something from my Fxr4 included in 6 spaces. I had "chesty" on my bikes Florida plate when I lived over there. I coulda got "FXR4", but I had to have something for the Corps. I was gonna go for just "USMC" on my current Bama tag; but I wanted to include something from my Fxr4; hence, "USMC4"  :2vrolijk_21:

You know, Florida has just passed that new law that prohibits the tag from being mounted anywhere except the rear fender on scooters with a $1000 fine for 1st offense and increasing $$ for 2nd offense, and loss of license thereafter.......talked to someone at Biketoberfest at Miller's that got nailed for a side-mounted one.  :'( spyder

I have been encountering a lot of "unique" laws in FL. Spy'd is right about the side mounted tag. Although I don't know how they are going to enforce it being that HD did make the Nightster for sale in FL which had to pass Federal regulations at the time of manufacture. It's like Myrtle Beach trying to supersede SC state law by requiring people to wear helmets. I got into a discussion down there over the validity of my SC driver's license. FL offers a "Florida Only" driver's license if you are a part time resident. They apparently have repealed a class "D" which is comparable to my current SC class "E" which is non-CDL over 26,000 lbs. They tried explaining that new Federal laws are requiring all licenses to have the same classification. They weren't happy when I told them that SC was already RealID compliant and that my class "E" was already valid. During all of this is when I found out about the different endorsements for motorcycles which apparently are not uniform state to state either. FL will recognize my motorcycle license and allow my to ride a trike and sidecar. However I need an endorsement in SC to do so. Both of which ironically will cost more $$$.

I immediately thought of the Nightster also, but since the law reads 'attached to the rear fender' instead of 'centered', it may be that the Nightstes's tag attached to a bracket which is attached to the rear fender is considered compliant.  Don't know.  It just makes for a 'hassle' that is obviously  'picking on/bullying' chopper riders.  They also have targeted the crotch rockets with the new 'no wheel, rear or front to leave the ground' law.  :( spyder

My horse (the 4 hoofed one) is a red dun.  His name is Dun-D-Mite.  My bike is the anniversary copper/black.  The copper matches his color.  So my bike is a tribute to my horse when he makes it to that pasture in the sky.  I take the iron horse to go see the flesh horse.

The bike plate is    D U N  D  2

A couple years ago in Alberta on a H2 I saw "I WANNA"....made sense on the back!

Anyone that can get 6 characters might like "IVNIK8"...or 7 characters "IVNIK8R" or "IVNIK8N" or "IVNIK8D" or "IVNIK8U"

Lots of good plates in previous post....I think it's mucho $ to get a custom plate here in BC (Bring Cash), Canada....but I'm going to look into it.

I'm concidering "CVOISH" or "SE 103", as I will be keeping my '08 Ultra with a SE 103" and a few CVO parts (and more to come) on it for a couple more years.

Wonder how long that tag will last?

A license check or traffic stop will be a problem.

Then the officer may say the tag has been modified.

Seems like a recipe for a big hassle, at least more than I'd want to deal with.

You may want to consider that the LEO has the option of warning, ticketing, or arresting.... Hope you don't get the one that feels the need to arrest on that particular day when you get stopped.... if that's the case... the "Oh Chit" factor is really going to kick in. :)

I have a 2009 FLTRSE3 with plates that say .....

UGOT 1

Title: Re: Personalized Plates
Post by: Buy early on July 30, 2011, 09:32:08 AM
I put this in another thread but I'll note it here as well. In my recent discussion with the  :police: who pulled me over for going 68 in a 55, I found out that, in the law enforcement community (at least here in Minnesota), CVO stands for Criminal Vehicular Operation :sad3:

Went to the web when I got home and found this:

Criminal law defines six levels of criminal vehicular operation (CVO) - all but one constituting felony offenses - depending on the level of injury inflicted:

criminal vehicular homicide (causing death, but not constituting murder or manslaughter);
great bodily harm (serious permanent injury);
substantial bodily harm (temporary substantial injury);
bodily harm (any pain or injury - a gross misdemeanor);
death to an unborn child; or
injury to an unborn child.
A common element to each of these CVO crimes is that the person causes the specified harm to another person as a result of operating a motor vehicle under any of the following conditions:

in a grossly negligent manner;
in violation of any of the elements of regular DWI law; or
where the driver who causes the accident leaves the scene in violation of Minnesota's felony fleeing law.
In practice, most CVO prosecutions involve simultaneous violation of the DWI law.

He said he became concerned when he saw my plate - 01 CVO and was glad I had an explanation for the acronym other than the one they use.

You learn something new every day!

$135, no mercy this time.

I've been stopped a few times over the past few years and got off so it was about time. It was an all hands on deck (7 patrol cars and a guy with a laser gun) speed trap on a Friday afternoon with gobs of folks heading up to their cabins pulling their fishing rigs. Was just trying to get around a few before the road went from divided 4 lane to two lane. It was over before it started.

Ruined a nice Friday afternoon ride.

It's a great thing to be allowed to choose your plate number, here in France it's impossible and the number is the same during the life of the vehicle.
So i've personalised mine with a small picture and the sentence :" Loud pipes save Lives" even if it's not legal.
Here are two pictures of it:

I have 2 HD's with cool Florida plates:

A PIGGY
GR8 PIG

BUT....had to write an explanation to Tallahassee explaining the HOG (Harley Owners Group) significance...and a PIG is another name for a hog. I assumed their problem was a pig was a denigrating remark towards women (sorry ladies) but the lady at the tag division said it was a negative connotation towards a police officer and Florida would not allow ANY plate with the word PIG on it. I BEAT 'em!!!!!   :).   and my cop buddies think it's great!

I applied for North Carolina plates "BADAZZ1," my buddy has the same plate, only in Montana for his bike........turns out my request is in poor taste, according to the "Bible Belt" DMV officials of North Carolina....might ought to move to Montana!

Montana has tightened up, they turned down my request for XANAX and a few others.......back in the 90s we had a girl from Oz staying with us, she got her car plated in Montana "SHAGZ"just to see if they'd do it so she could take them home for souvenirs !

I have just bought a 2008 CVO screaming eagle dyna and its only got 2000 miles on it...Love it...
so the number plate being ordered is

                                                         38DD

Now my girlfriend is annoyed with me because she is a 36FF but I told her, 38DD is just the premier set of breasts and it rolls off the tongue so well....She reminded me that my tongue may never get neat her FF's ever again..haha...

cheers from Australia
PS...A shot of my FF baby attached, I do love her no matter how much I give her a hard time...

My friend lost his CVO springer due to unfortunate times.. but he kept his personalized plate.. he just gave it to me...  "CVO"

Hawaii is funky with plates.... because the plate was still assigned to a vehicle and the vehicle on paper was expired (though now registered in another state) They initially told me I couldnt get the plates unless I paid the backtaxes.(typical beauracracy)

Then one of the ladys told the clerk that was helping me that after 4 years of assignment, if the plate expires it can be reordered... so thats how we went... of course I still have the original plate... so I'll give that back to my buddy.

I've had the same tag for 10 years and on 3 different Harley's. No matter how old you are some Mom's don't like you riding! Esspecially when you have a little brother in a wheel chair because of a bike wreck! I'm 56 this month and my brother has been in the chair almost 30 years. But when I went to get my tag for my first Harley ( hadn't had a bike in 20 years ) the random tag I got was KW 924. Thought something was special about that number and in a day or two it hit me!! KW, Kenny Wayne, what my mom called me when I was in trouble, You know like KENNY WAYNE!!!!! then the 924! Mom's birthday is Sept 24. When I told her about the number we felt like it was given to me to let her know ever thing was going to be ok with me riding again! So far so good!  ;D If I ever have to give it up for a new one I'm putting it in one of my saddle bags!!! Then I'll get a custom tag like maybe PUMKIN  :pumpkin:

A riding buddy of mine who owns a funeral home has 9 bikes and not one personalized plate.

I just suggested that his sole CVO in the group deserves its own special plate and considering the business he's in, I suggested he order the following plate for it...

DIGIT

In Ontario we are only allowed 5 characters for motorcycle plates.

Mine says BKR CHK, but too many people think Baker Chick (Really? Do I look like Betty Crocker?). But here in Texas we have to purchase them from an independent company so I own this for another 7 years (Cheaper to buy for 10 years lump sump than one year indenpedently). I did put some Harley Emblem stickers on it so hope it makes more sense.

On my bike itself, it says "Cee Yu" because Cee Ya, C-YA, SeeYa, etc. were all taken.

A CLOSE UP SHOT IN CASE YOU MISS THE POINT !

That's the beauty of "online ordering" I did not have to ask a clerkess at the registration dept for it and have to say it out loud haha...

Cost ? A "one-off" payment of $425 Australian,  (around the same as the USD ) . That includes the manufacture of the plate itself

Normal yearly registration/3rd party insurance same as with a standard off the shelf "state-plate"

You have the plate for " life" with no further charge.

If you sell your bike you can retain the plate , or pass it to the new owner , small admin charge to him if you go that way !

It was a process getting that plate.  First I tried for the acronym for Friendly Universal Harley Davidson (FUHD).  Also tried for Fresh Young Harley Davidson (FYHD).  I thought Go Fast Young Harley Davidson (GFYHD) might get by but as part of a three group request with the other two no luck.  Private Ordinary Young Harley Davidson (POYHD) didn't work either.  But, eventually, Finally Own Harley Davidson (FOHD) made it through just fine.  :2vrolijk_21:

Hey wait a minute, didn't you know someone who had the SERK plate in Missouri.  I'm not sure but I think I've been insulted.

Gary, can you help me out here?  Has Don just insulted me?   :nixweiss:

I thought you guys were required to have large number plates  :nixweiss: larger then what you have there.

OK, did you add the punctuation with a blue marker? With my luck, I'd have every LEO in my area giving me a hard time for doing that.

I did. Have had it for almost 14 years. Have been pulled over several times for this and that. Never been mentioned by any of them. However used to run a lightly tinted cover and got pulled over twice and sited once. Took it off.

Just kidding.

That's a tall order with so many to work with, but considering that you're from Kansas, why not go a completely different route and go with...

Which of course stands for "There's No Place Like Home".  Just a thought that quickly came to mind.

OLYLR (for ol' yeller...you have a yellow bike)
HTROD (for your screen name Hot Rod and or your bike performance...)
KSCVO (for Kansas CVO)

I had an AMC Matador in Scotland in the early 90's

Bought it from a yank serviceman at Edzell airbase for 400 quid

Number plate was  USA 1 X

Issued on import to the car in 1991 apparently , unique series of plates specifically for US servicemen

I sold the car to a mate in Warrington for 400 quid ( pounds) 2 years later who got T]boned in it and scrapped the car !

The number plate alone today is probably worth 2000 pounds maybe more ?

I've been on Australia for 20 years now and have kind of lost touch with all that in the UK !

And I just ordered one for my new SL550 that reads...

        SEENAGER

My wife thought it up and I had never heard of it, but Google it and you'll see why she thought I should go with it.   ;D

You'll just have to convince your BC government to increase the letter count as we did in Ontario.

How many are you allowed to have?  We're 8 in Ontario and I wish it was more of course.

Here's what mine will look like when I get it in a few weeks.

Here is my updated plate. I've had the rayson for years (it's my last name) But I thought you folks here may enjoy this rendition!

That really looks good, I like yours better than the one with the oval inside shape!! Which cover do you have?

Just to clarify... In Ontario you are allowed 5 digits for a bike plate and 8 digits for a car.
