MPH vs RPM  5 speed /6 speed
« on: February 07, 2006, 07:32:26 AM »

Just for grins I plugged the numbers into the Nightrider calculator for a 3.15 final with a .86 OD 6th . OF course this doesn't account for wind resistance load, sanity or law enforcement .

I know a lot of folks , me included consider both 6 speeds and  3.37 's  This was prompted by my brother who asked my how fast my bike was .. I haven't ever taken it over 90 but it was interesting anyway.

Yeah ... I doubt too many of us will be pullin 150+ , I went 122 one time on a sport bike when I was in my 30's and it was way too fast for me.

Thanks for the numbers Nidan.  Wind resistance is a good point, my SRT10 won't pull in 6th like 5th, the running mile record was set in 5th, kind of becomes a brick at top end.

I prefer anything over 130 to be on four wheels.  Here's a shot of my speedo in Germany that the wife took on the autobahn, we picked a Porsche up at the factory.  Tough to see but the needle to the right of the tach is sitting on 174 mph.

Really cant see the top speed was your speedo in both KPH / MPH , also wondering if you did this out towards Neurenberg?   It was really eerie reading the date.  The 9 11 caught my eye then I saw year was 97 hehe.   I was just over there and they have really cut down on the wide open speed places on the different autobahns.   Old East Germany towards Magdeburg / between Vienna and Munich and out by the Neurenberg area.  There maybe a few more, but those are the ones I still know of today.  I can surely appreciate their driving habits there you pass and get to the right there is no fast lane sitters over there thank goodness.

It's mph, tourist delivery cars are US spec and then shipped home.

The trip was just prior to the get off ramp in Rothenburg.  The trip was in 97 and I hadn't noticed until recently that the date was 911.  The other fact is that I was in a 97 C4S, so that make the car a '91 911 too.

Germany, I believe, is the only place left in Europe with any unlimited speed roads, most of them have those electronic boards over the lanes near metro areas that can regulate the kph depending on conditions.

I am going over again in May and I'll see if I find any good open areas.  On that particular run I had a Kawasaki that was staying with me between rolling traffic slow downs until I hit about 140 mph, my wife pointed out not to expect her to ride with me over 100.....the KAW had a female passenger that would sit up when he slowed down to around 105 mph and she'd tuck her hair back under her helmet.  (Now if you ask me she had som major balls)

Good job Fr8.

When I got my first bike, my buddy bought a sportster and we made a pact that everytime we rode we would hit 100 mph.

To this day I still pretty much do it everytime I ride, usually an on ramp to the freeway.

The first ride?  1969
