Title: How to take the plastic surround off around the forks lock?
Post by: WildmanUltra on June 14, 2019, 04:08:49 PM
Howdy all,
I searched and found people asking how to do this but never found out HOW.

I don't want to break the plastic so I figured it was better to ask. I've got about 5 hours of riding time on the bike so far and know that I want to try rolling the bars forward before I replace them.
Is there any pictures of where I need to pry the tab loose? Or a video?

Thanks.

at the center back is a lill tab , with a pick or small screw driver , pull up on cover and push tool in, carefully , the tab can break easily, then lift and pull cover back  … if you google road glide handle bar pin  :2vrolijk_21:

Take the two screws out of the gauge cover. Turn the forks the whole way to one side. Then do as Freddy said. It gives you a whole lot more room to work with it and it isn't tight. I've ruined one of those covers before doing it without taking the cluster apart.

Mine has a chrome cover over the switches and is blocking the little groove. Im almost breaking the chrome cover trying to get it off. Suggestions?  Oh and I just bought the bike used a few weeks ago.

Congrats on the new bike. I have only had mine since Thursday 13 June 19. So far I love the new bike compared to my 2011 RGU.

I'm going to give this a try tomorrow. Got family in town so today is shot for working on the bike.

I never got a chance to work on the handlebars yet. But think I might get a chance to mess with them today or tomorrow.

I'm trying to undo all the cobbled CRAP the PO had done to this bike. Instead of buying the CORRECT parts when he took the heel shifter off he used a piece of pipe and some clear backing tape to keep the pipe from rattling...………... :'( :'( :( >:(

Then the Airfoil parts are BO until Nov so I've got to go with a different design. I'll get it all figured out and fixed just is frustrating a little that someone would do this to a $40K bike.

Getting the Dang Nab surround back into the bike was harder than taking the thing off. I'm going to order a spare one since I bent the plastic tab a little.

That part number is no longer valid.

Here is the part # for the black one. 25700870
Do you have a part # for the sticker that goes on top?

The funny part of all this was that whom ever did the PDI on this bike hadn't taken the plastic cover off the trim piece.  :nixweiss:

When I ordered mine, it was vin protected because of that damn sticker. Not sure if you can get just the sticker.

When I take it in for the 117" kit I'll ask the parts guy. I like the black trim piece better and I don't really need the sticker telling me which way is locked or unlocked.

Sounds like a winner there. Lots of people out there doing custom plates that stick on that horseshoe if you get so inclined.

I forgot to add pictures of how far I had moved my bars forward.

I know you have a RG but on my Limited I took just the bolts out of the fuel tank and slid it back 2". The extra space made things a lot easier
