Title: CVO Cover
Post by: JoeVibe on September 12, 2013, 08:57:20 AM
Is the cover that came with my bike suitable for outdoor use, or is it just a dust cover for indoors?

Thanks,

Joe

Indoor use only. I also believe it states it shouldn't be washed.

If it is the cloth one, indoors would be best unless you are sure it won't rain. Some even argue it's not a great long term indoor cover. More of an overnight dust cover.

Thanks Guys. I thought that was going to be the answer. I don't need to cover it in my garage. I was wondering about using it on the road. Guess I'll go cover shopping.

Check out - Exigent Bike Covers (http://www.exigentbikecovers.com/shop/)... they are great waterproof covers, pack light, many of us have them and recommend them. :2vrolijk_21:

The cover is very heavy duty.  I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it is an outdoor cover.  If it was not for outdoor use, why all the extensive ropes to sinch the cover down and keep it from flapping in the wind?  Personally I will not use mine indoors as I have a much more light weight and easy to use one.

I used mine indoors last winter and it worked great-kept all moisture off the bike.

Is the cover you're speaking embroidered with "Custom Vehicle Operations (like the one pictured below)?

If so that is for indoor use only as has been the case w/all the CVO covers in the past.

I asked my original question while I was at work this morning. I'm still trying to work out a way to get to Maggie Valley next week and was wondering about the cover that came with the bike. I hadn't looked at it since I threw it on a shelf the day I brought the bike home. When I saw Fired00d's reply with the picture I went out and found mine also had a tag on it. Turns out, it is an outdoor cover after all.  :2vrolijk_21:

Hmmmmm.... I sit corrected :D MoCo must have changed the covers... that's the first one that I've seen that has been for outdoor use.

Can you check and see what your 2012 bag says?   I tend to use mine when it gets a little chilly at nights during the winter time.  Gotta keep her comfy! ;D

Bingo!  Now I remember where I read "outdoor" cover. :)  But, even if I hadn't read the tag, I'd known it was for outdoor use just because of how it's made especially all the ropes on it to secure it on the bike.

Is the Ultra cover different from the Street Glide cover? Mine is cloth, doesn't have any ropes, has a sewn in Elastic band at the bottom and I sure wouldn't use it for outdoor protection in rain or bad moist weather. Like many others I use the I use the Exigent cover. Water proof, much lighter and smaller, easier to pack then the Harley cover.

I'll have to look at mine when I get home. I assumed it was an indoor cover as well and have never opened it. Was planning on buying an Oasis Day Cover or something that packs up smaller than the CVO cover before I head to Maggie Valley.

Turned out that mine is an indoor/outdoor cover as well. Never gave it notice until I read this thread, good call Joe!

Why would anyone use a cover that screams CVO on it?  (Come steal me)

I have a black cover made of parachute material. You know its a motor under it and possible a HD but that's it.

Exactly!!! Another reason a lot of us have gone to Exigent covers. :2vrolijk_21:

My thoughts too but as of now it's the only one I have and I'm leaving for MV in a couple of days. I think it will be okay for a CVO get together but not for a dark hotel parking lot with no other bikes around. Will order a generic cover soon for that reason and because the CVO cover is bulky and takes up too much space for other more valuable gear.

FYI - instructions say not to wash the cover....if you do, the cover will shed lint forever.  I washed the CVO cover from my old SERK and I had to throw it away.

Just got back from the rally in Ruidoso New Mexico & we used the 11 cvo cover every night, sheds water like plastic, worked like a charm & it is huge

Used mine in Maggie Valley last weekend. Worked great but it may be the last time I use it. The darn thing is so huge and bulky and hard to get back in the pack that it will soon be replaced with a more compact version. If you're traveling 2 up and have much luggage there would be nowhere to store it. I was solo so I strapped it on the passenger seat but with a passenger it would require almost an entire saddlebag.

I have two still in the bag, one for my 12 and one for my 13.  Yea, an out door cover but take up way to much room to use for traveling, which is why they are un used.

I use cloth cover in the garage, specifically if I am having contractors walk in and out of the garage along with the kids. I got this one below for $50 at a dealer as they must not be big sellers.

It works here in FL to keep the sun and rain off the seat when I stop for lunch, etc. It folds up to a small package about the size of a brown paper lunch bag and the cover has the storage pouch sewn into the actual cover. It has holes for antennas and fits over stock windshield.

93100030  OUTDOOR CVR, W/CVO LOGO, SFTL    (07/22/13)

I got this one with my 2014 Breakout...  This one is specific for Softails.  Since it's different from yours, maybe some are for outdoor and other for indoor use depending on the bike ???

... My 2 cents...

It appears the last 2 digits of the part number indicate that it is a CVO embroidered cover. My part number didn't come upon the HD website either but mine is the same cover as P/N 93100025 with the exception of the embroidery. By the way, it leaks through the stitching on the logo part, nice look but not well thought out.
