Thank goodness for warranty...I'm on my 3rd set in 16 mos. Life expectancy is not very long. 1st set quit heating, 2nd set started peeling chrome. 3rd set, ride w gloves on wipe often and don't use the heat for better life of the grip...

I am getting the heated grips installed on my ride. They are the same as whats on the CVO Ultra and whats on the SG now but not heated. When installed new before the bike leaves the dealership they are covered under the warranty. If they last the 7 years then they should last the life of the bike. (I HOPE).

No heated grips for me. :(

Was on the phone today with the dealer and I was told that the wiring harness on the 2011 CVO SG does not have a plug in connector to accommodate the wiring for the heated grips. They could wire something they said but it would take about 14 hours in labour  :o. He also did not sound to confident that it can be accomplished. Bottom line the bike was not made to accommodate heated grips. So I asked them to just leave the stock grips on my bike.

If one takes out his handy dandy service-writer-to-English translator that means:

"We really don't want to do this task but we can't out and out admit that.  So instead we're going to quote you a thousand dollars to take your handlebars on and off."

Another reason to look at Heat Demons... I've been told that they will work on most bikes with almost any grips.

I think i will just stick with what the bike comes with. I really love the look of that grip and really matches the bike. It is not do or die for me to have them but as you know in Ontario it gets pretty cool in September. Never had heated grips before so i think i will be ok.......i must be getting old....lol

Ok, so I guess I'll go with the Heat Demons. Has anyone installed them yet on a set of bars that had to be opened up to 7/8"? If so, how deep do you have to go and were
there any other problems on the throttle side?

Personally I'm not impressed with heated grips at all. If I wear heavy gloves, I can't feel the heat from the grips anyway. If I wear light gloves, the heat coming from the grips isn't enough to compensate for the lack of insulation. What I have found that works great is Garmin heated gear. You want to talk about warm hands/feet/core/legs, it's the best climate control there is. Everything else, IMHO, is just going to a gun fight with a sling shot.

Need to open the bars to 7/8" for 6 inches.  The Heat Demons will then fit/work as advertised.

On my 10SESG , if you reamed out the handle bars, my guy said they would be be to thin, could break.  :nixweiss:

He would not install the Heat Demons, We had to order Harley Stuff and they work fine. (He Is NOT a Harley Dealer.)

Can't just accept it because someone says so.  Should have asked him in response why for many (many many) years bars with the same OD were just fine with the 7/8" ID.  Then when he couldn't give anything resembling a specific answer ask him if he'd like to rethink his initial response.

The weak point of a handlebar has never been out at the grip.  Leverage applied against them as it is if a bar is going to break it's going to be at the center around or between the clamps.  Your guy was full of it.

Like using a shopping cart lower frame for handlebars like, I've heard, was done years ago.

Shopping cart frame hell.  When I was 15 or 16 wasted a couple weekends putting a motor on a whole shopping cart.  Another buddy did it in his garage at the same time.  Then we met to race our shopping carts.

By the way; it didn't end well...  ::)
