New to this forum rant!
« on: December 22, 2010, 11:19:28 AM »

I am 72 yrs young and still ride like I was 40,my wife and I are active in our local HOG chapter and ride every weekend. After owning 2 ultras 1 sportswear, 1 softail and now my 08 SG I was interested in owning a SESG before I have to give up riding. I found this forum and started reading. I have never heard of all the problems that you folks have had with your CV Os. The cost of the bike and then all the money you put into the eng and other add ons. After spending some hrs reading the posts on this forum if I was HD I would drop the whole CVO line. I went to my dealer yesterday and put an order in for a SESG I am ready to call and cancel. Why would you buy something that cost more then my first house and then after reading all the bullchit about how bad the bikes are ,you would buy one. I know there are problems with some bikes but it seems like most of you are having problems. I was hoping to join this forum for answers and good advice about the bikes, but it seems it is like the news doom and gloom. I think I will hold onto my 08 and just enjoy the ride. Any one have anything good to say about the bikes?

I have to say that while people have had some issues and problems, overall the bikes seem to be great.  Just like anything else, human nature is to talk about the "bad" things while taking the good for granted.  You never hear of someone calling Customer Service for something just to tell them how great their product is!  :huepfenjump3:

I've been riding since the early 70s (I'm 60).  I'm on my second CVO (a 2010 SE Street Glide), the first was an 04 SE Electra Glide.  While I paid more for the 2 CVOs I can tell you that I haven't spent as much time, effort and energy on these two..as I have the preceeding models over the years, just to keep them running.   Now most of the money I've spent has gone on comfort, convience, etc.

I've always done things like cams, head work, stroke, etc. to increase performance.  Now, I simply changed the baffles, add a tuner, change cams get it dyno tuned and ride the hell out of it.  They did have a number of issues the first couple of years of the 110" however, I think for the most part those issues have been corrected.

Yes, I'd do it again.  Here's a thread I started awhile back....click on this.....  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=48337.0

Look at the people bitching. Go back and read some of their other post.  You can't make everyone happy.

Buy the SESG. Remove the CAT (it's not HD's fault, it's the EPA), put in fullsac baffles, dyno tune. Enjoy.
Don't deny yourself this great motorcycle.

Thanks, I knew that most of you have been happy with your bikes but I guess the ones that do have problems should tell others. I did not want to sound bitter but it seems like there are a lot of problems with some. I hope to be on this fourm when I have mine with some ?? about things and am looking forward for some help when needed.

2010 SEUC - 29K, no problems with the drivetrain.  Buy the extended warranty, let it breathe, and run the krap out of it.  :bananarock:

I've had a number of problems with my 08 SERK. It's gotten me down so much I bought a 11 SESG2 and 02 SERK and kept the SERK4. Their just machines, some of em break. Some of us are documenting our problems on the site to
1) see if others have had a similar problem and know the solution &
2) let others know about a problem and what solution you found

Look at the people bitching. Go back and read some of their other post.  You can't make everyone happy.

It's not all bitching but sometimes it is because it's therapeutic  :2vrolijk_21:

BTW: your going to like your SESG2!

I feel in the main we are all "glass half full" types here. I for one appreciate folk sharing their views on these great bikes whether they are good, bad or indifferent - many of the choices i've made personalising my SG have been in part based on the feedback here. I does indeed disappoint me to hear of brethren with issues as I've received a bike that is virtually flawless.

Would I drop $46K in Aussie pesos again for another CVO? ..............yes without hesitation.

Really hope you proceed with your pending purchase - you'll love it.
Cheers
Glen

Just had a Harley Pro Tuner, V&H Power Duals and HO slips ons fitted to my SESG - now even better than before.  No problems at all and effortless power.  Despite all the problems listed here, my paint is pretty much flawless, the bike handles far better than my 2010 RK Classic and it goes like a scalded cat!  Like Glen, I paid $46K Aussie for it and very happy to have such a unique and special motorcycle.  Lance
