KEEP 2012 SE SG OR BUY NEW RG
« on: October 29, 2014, 07:20:50 PM »

Bought 2012 SE SG  with 3700 miles 4 months go.  Been a HD owner for more than half my life at 61.  Over the years , 86 Heritage since 88 that was taken apart to fame and rebuilt everything With S&S motor   and did same on   55 Hardtail suicide clutch and new S&S.   I rode a friends' new SG 5 months ago and I was  Reborn.  Love it.  So I bought 2012 SE SG and now  3 months later  and   4,000 miles, have  noise in top end.    So I've been reading up on everything i can find and have decided to ship motor out to one of shops recommended  here and spend about $5,000, plus exhaust and clutch.  So my question is should I
SPEND  MONEY ON THE MOTOR  plus extras or BUY NEW 2015 ROADGLIDE and put Stage IV kit?
Thanks

Depends on the color... If it's ORANGE, then keep it and build it!  :pumpkin: The other colors aren't worth upgrading, because they would still be too slow anyway!  :2vrolijk_02:

Any other color, just upgrade to the Rushmore SERGU...  Or even better, a new Rushmore SESG! :2vrolijk_21:

Hmmmm  :(

If I were you bud I would take the time to take out a Rushmore demo bike either a road glide or street glide, see all the improvements they have made with the bigger forks, reflex brakes, better economics, infotainment system etc then ask yourself do you like your bike better? If the answer is yes then sure swap out the motor on your flxse, but I would say stay away from stage 4 you really don't need it, the stage 2 is a much nicer build, the stage 4 is designed for HP all at the top end and robs shed loads of torque from low end, I had one on a softail once years ago and even after a tune that cam and large throttle body can feel "lumpy" no where near as refined as the 255 cam or similar cams, you can't change physics my friend!.
If I had 5k+ to plough into it I would put that into a new Rushmore bike, the resale alone on the 2014 will be better also when you come to trading and I think you will be a happier puppy!  :)
