Title: Damaged Saddlebag
Post by: yasire on February 22, 2017, 06:40:38 PM
Got my new '16 SG CVO and went for a ride.  After about 1/2 hour, I had a car driver point to my saddlebag.  I didn't look, but immediately pulled into a local shop and as I went bump-bump off the road, the saddlebag fell off and got scratched up on a couple edges (but the side is fine).  What's the best way to get that fixed up?  Visit the dealer?  A local repair shop?  I'm in Boston if it matters.

That's a bummer. I had that happen to me when I owned my 05 CVO I took it to a local painter who had a great reputation and they assured me they could match up the paint. They did a great job you would never know it had been damaged. There is a painter in New Jersey who posts in the Vender section that paints CVO bikes I think his name is Joe and maybe the busisss name is Extreme Dimensions.

Since you did not get the bike from the dealer, you likely have no recourse.  Also, since the bike must have sat for some time, you might want to have it serviced sooner than later, especially, tire pressure.

You might want to take pics of the damage and call / send them to Joe from Xtreme Dimension Custom Motorcycles  856-740-5020 for advice or an estimate.  Here is some of his work:  Custom Paint (https://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=85822.0)

Was this the same saddlebag you removed in this thread - Remove Saddlebag (https://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=111064.0)?

Yup - and clearly didn't attach it correctly.

Can't remember when the MoCo changed the clips (think I remember they made them more secure), but if you have this style...

You may want to look at offerings from this vendor - Brukus' New Discount Code on ALL Products! (https://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=106143.0) (SaddlebagSecure) or similar style way to secure your saddlebags.

I would say first spend the $10 on eBay 4 something like monkey nuts I can't remember the actual name. Or go to the dealer and make sure they run your VIN to see if the recall was performed or if it covers your bike as a 16.
Ask for painting I'm sure there's someone up north that can do well however I just read a lot of things about Joe and his experience and matching the paint here on the site

I can personally vogue for Joe @ Xtreme Dimensions.  He is in my book the best.  He is great to work with and truly is amazing with his skills.
He painted my tour pak from a previous bike to a perfect match for my '17 CVOSG.

You would I hope have insurance? Call and file a claim. Not sure why you haven't already done this. I know of no insurance company that wouldn't buy you a bag. Less your deductible of course. So pay the $250.00 (or whatever) and go about your business.

New Lower Bag from Harley comes already painted.   Current Retail is $1,055.23    If you can buy it from a dealer offering 20% off then you can save a little $$

I would also call Joe @ Xtreme Dimensions and see if he can help you.  He has some pics posted on his Facebook page and the CVO forums.  Here is the link to his FB page.

Without knowing exactly how much damage is involved, it's pretty hard to offer meaningful suggestions.  If the only damage is some scuffed up clearcoat on the bottom edges (which the OP seems to indicate), I don't think buying a new highly overpriced bag is necessary.  And even if the damage extends into the color coats, a spot paint repair by a good shop will cost a fraction of what a new bag will cost, even after discounts.  Filing an insurance claim only makes sense if it really becomes necessary to buy a new bag.

Let's see a photo of the actual damage.

I would say get some Bagger bolts and ride with scratches, if it just the edge and the sides are fine eff it. Get a good coat of way back on there and away you go

I know this is an old post, but I recently purchased a used 2016 CVO Streetglide and the entire bike was painted by " Gunslinger" from the fenders to the bags. All had Gunslinger stickers on every part. Just for future reference.

No Gunslinger paint company stickers on mine anywhere.

Gunslinger does not do the publics painting any longer only for Harley Corp. they told me when asking to have a tour pack painted a year ago. Something about conflict of interest with H.D. the lady was very nice and told me to call CPV vehicles in Wisconsin never had work performed by them but on phone they were very knowledgeable and professional.
