Title: Need help deciding on color
Post by: tlr on September 16, 2014, 10:43:49 AM
Hi all,

I have been trying to decide what color to go with for a 2015 SG CVO.  I want a color that pops, but not over the top.  I like the silver, but feel that the flake may be a little too much. I also like some color and the silver/black may be a bit monotone.

I also like the blue, but don't want it to look too purple.

The reviews thus far is that both colors look great and folks that have bought them really like their selection.  so what is your opinion?

I'm gonna be biased because of the ultraviolet and orange color combo....if it were me or my decision, I'd pick da blue

Not much help but know of 3 blue/orange ones at ohio dealers and haven't seen a silver one.

If you want to  clean/polish after every ride, get the blue.  Get the silver if you don't.  Either look great.

The blue won't be any where near as bad as black and I wouldn't get a color that you don't love just because you have to clean it.

The one thing that I noticed with dark metallic paint is that any little hair line scratch shows up like a sore thumb, just got a new truck in deep blue and the first day I parked it at work I come out and see a 3in hair line scratch in the front quarter panel, probably someone just brushed against it but now I have a white line in the clear, too much real estate on the bags and tank to worry about

I can relate to your mental battle. I think silver looks the best, but it's a little too flashy for me. The yellow is really sharp and I do prefer the black accents over the chrome, but I wish it were black with yellow flames, instead of mostly yellow. The black and gold was the one I thought was for me, it was very understated. The other problem was that the black was sooo black that it almost made the speaker grills on the bags appear grey. Blue and orange isn't one I'm interested in, so I haven't tracked one down. Good luck LOL.

The Blue and Orange seem to be at every dealer on the west coast. It is the first and only color available out here right now. In fact i know of one dealer that has four of them in stock. Yes four of the same color. It doesnt seem to be selling as every dealer still has it in stock. However the color does look great in person. I am waiting to see a Yellow one that is coming in about a week and a Silver one that is about a month out. Before i make my decision.

I'm somewhat in the same boat. I've only seen the blue / orange in person, but I have a deposit on the silver and black. It's due to arrive in early Oct. I'm hoping that when I see it, it really pops and screams my name. It's not easy to give up the Tequila Sunrise I have now.

That (IMO) is the only way to decide what color is right for you :2vrolijk_21:.... just like.... ummm.... you know what we all have :D... opinions are like that... what I like and moves my soul may not be what the next person likes.... one has to decide what really moves their soul and purchase that bike/color to truly (again IMHO) to be happy and satisfied. :smitten:

I agree with Fired00d in that you should pick what pleases you.
You are the one that's going to pay for it, stare at it everyday of ownership and every mile down the road.

No matter what, many compliments will come your way but so will the negative comments, some will be in jest and others not so much -Who cares what others think  :huepfenlol2:
Compared to those Harley folk that feel a true Harley is either black or flat black and us CVO folk ride around "tarted up like a hooker's handbag" we all offend someone out there.......

Well, I traded my 2011 CVO SG for the Orange/Blue/Purple, violet one last Saturday. Only put 350 miles on it so far. Never thought I would buy an orange/blue bike, but I really like the color. Got a lot of compliments so far or maybe my buds are just being kind to a crazy old man. No matter, I like it. I swear it sits lower than my 2011 did. Not a problem, but I am a bit perplexed. Took me a while to figure out all the controls and options. My only complaint is the speakers don't seem as loud as ones on my RG.

thanks for all the responses. I certainly agree with get what you want and it has to really pop. everyone sees these colors differently and some have very good opinions and thoughts that I and others may not have thought of.  All that being said, I am still undecided.  The silver is great from 10 yards, but up close it is alot and I am not sure if I can live with it long term.  The blue has purple hue in it and the orange stands out alot as a contrast.  They both are very nice, I just need to see them live.  More to come for sure.  For those who have them congrats, they are both sweet.

I went to the York open house was able to see all four of them in the sun at the demo lot...watched them ride in and out for hours.

Throughout the day...it was the yellow and black that seemed to always catch my eye.  I am not a fan of yellow but the black flame with the red accent just pops....both up close and a far.

The black and gold dust to me look the best up close.  The ghost flames just look cool.  But from a far it look like a plane shiny black bagger and to me it seem to be missing the gas tank badge.

The Hard Candy is just beautiful....the depth of the metal flake amazing.  But from a far is seem blend to silverish-white.

The Blue/Lava was one that I kept falling in and out of.  The orange flame pops like they are on fire and look great against the blue.  Not sure what is was...could be the clash with the granite motor...not sure.

The Yellow/black and Black/gold dust have a some what blacked out motor with black crash bars, handle bars and muffler tips.

The Blue/lava and Hard Candy have the granite motor and chrome trim.

I would be pleased as punch to have any of these in my garage.

I saw the blue today. It is really quite nice.  Much better than all the pics show.  The orange has a nice bit of sparkle to it and the blue is great.  I say that the blue has some black in it and yet a hint of purple.  In the shade it shows the black and in the sun the purple.  That being said it really isn't purple.  the overall color has a violet tint to it.

I definitely like the Hard Candy best, but I'd like it a lot more if it had the black engine and accents and contrast-cut wheels.

You can't look at them in the photos to decide... you need to see them in the flesh and out in the sun to compare...  Which one makes you look back a second or third time?  What color inspires you to caress the bike?

And no need to do a poll on this... it is not what we like but what YOU like...  :2vrolijk_21:

Be sure to post photos when you get it.

After reading your posts I'm not sure you'd be happy with the silver in the long run. I voted blue and as usual I'm in the minority. Both are great looking bikes. Good luck.

I agree that you must see the colors in person, so far, I've only seen Black/Gold Dust and Yellow/Black. O fthose, the Yellow Black looks the best with the red highlighting on the graphics. The Black/Gold Dust was a demo bike parked between other bikes and very dirty. The Yellow was in a showroom, but you could see the flakes in the Yellow. Let's see some outside photos of that yellow one.

Gents,

I went with the yellow/black on Saturday. The photos do not do these bikes justice-you gotta see the color in person. My last 4 bikes were Amber Whiskey-Ember Red-Black-Black. You can see the yellow flake throughout and in the black flames.

Congrats. Thats awesome. I bet the yellow looks great in person. Post pics when you can

Gents,

On this color choice, I am glad they didn't match the inner fairing color. The black offsets the yellow. In the saddlebags, both left and right, the wiring harness protrudes about 1-1 1/4 inches from inner, which means if you use the travel bags, you can't stuff as much travel gear as my 14 SG.

Just an FYI for those on fence about trade. I got $18,630 for my 14 SG (non special) with more than 13k miles and paid just over $35,540 MSRP plus tax on difference (msrp less trade) at 6% tax+ tags + freight....tax was just over $1000, $435 Freight, $220 tags/title.

Whatever you ride or like---it's your bike. Obviously the Hard Candy is the most popular, but I am happy with my choice.

x2
This is the color I picked....it took me a while to deside.....I just could stop looking at it.

I think it is the red accent that sealed the deal for me.....plus it kinda matches my tent :nervous:

Hello all! I just purchased my 2015 Street Glide CVO in the best color of all 4 available. How could you possibly pass up that custom Hard Candy Mercury and those metallic smokey black flames??? OMG! the paint is so thick and heavily clear coated that the flames look like they are actually raised above the metal flake! The blacked out motor and accessory theme is not my taste. Harleys should be dripping in chrome and this CVO is. With that insane flake, the chrome is eye popping! I am in Washington state and this was the only silver 2015 around in a 3 state radius. Silver and black have always been a favorite color for me. Being a 70's kid growing up, how could you not drool over the Cortez Silver and Black '69 Chevrolet Z28 and Chevelle SS? Just my opinion of course. 2nd choice would be the Blue and Orange. Now I have to change my name to 15CVOglide  :)

This is the BIG trip on that 4 miles on the odometer. Bought it on a Saturday. Pulled it in the garage. Came down with some crud, 5 days now. Nice rare sunny days in Seattle at this time of year. My brand new '15 Hard Candy FLHXSE sits waiting for my recovery...lol. I could have had those miles ez by now.Arrrrrgh. So, I buy my wife real diamonds. No fake cubics. I buy my mechanical girlfriend genuine $650 CFR's. Lots of options out there, but my ears tell me I will never regret buying them. Heck, the VH headers were only $500, arrive tomorrow. All in all, that is what we Harley guys do. We love to trick out our bikes. CVO's no different. Always room for personalization  :2vrolijk_21:

Nice paint set but very expensive.

Paint Set $4300
Stretched Saddlebags $1500
Inner fairing is over a grand.

I'm sure that's above the listing price and would think minus the labor.

ur bike looks great.  I do like the blue lights and how that looks against the silver. Paint issues aside, i really like all the colors.  I went with the blue/orange and am still ovoiing it. Everytime I pull into my garage (in my car) and I look over, it puts a big smile on my face. They all have a "pop" to them.
