Couple of oil questions for the 2011 VRSCDX...
« on: February 18, 2011, 12:06:47 PM »

I have 1 mile on my bike as of today, and I will be breaking it in soon as the roads clear off...

What comes in the bike from the factory?

I want to change the oil out after the first 100 miles or so, and I want to put back in what came from the factory to finish my 1000 mile break in... I have engine engineers in my family and they recommend changing the oil after the first 20-100 miles to flush out any debris left over from the machining process...

Think it came with synthetic in it?

Thanks....Kevin

Kevin,
The oil debate is something of a "Red Herring" but I changed out the factory oil in my V-Rod to Mobil 1. The main reason was I didn't know what was in the engine to begin with nor did I feel comfortable leaving factory oil in it.

Best of luck with the break in miles.

The only Harley's I'm aware of that come with synthetic motor oil from the factory are the CVO models.  I'd suggest that you consult the owner's manual concerning the oil; odds are pretty good that it comes with the same stuff they recommend in the manual.

There is no real reason to obsess over what brand of oil to use, or type for that matter (syn versus blend versus dino).  Make sure whatever you pick meets the requirements set forth by Harley (SAE grade, API rating) and don't worry about it.
