Does anyone with the 2011 or 2012 Softail Convertible know if the Amp for the music system is built into the fairing
or located on the bike somewhere? My wife has a 2010 and wants music. I just found a complete take off Mini fairing
from a 2012 but need to know if thats all I would need?

I can't answer the actual question but can put you on track to find out. I have this bookmarked since it covers so many manuals I don't have:
Ronnie's HD parts finder online: https://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com/ronnies/showmodel.asp?make=hdmc (https://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com/ronnies/showmodel.asp?make=hdmc)
Exploded diagram and parts list for 2012 FLSTSE3 sound system (see Item 17: Amp, Controls, harness)
https://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com/ronnies/showmodel/13/harleydavidsonmc/889 (https://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com/ronnies/showmodel/13/harleydavidsonmc/889)
Might need some gaskets, wiring connectors, etc.

From the exploded view, it kinda looks like the amp is located in the fairing? Maybe.

Fairing is the only place I've seen it. Makes sense b/c the speakers are right there, and it gets some weather protection. Item 17 says it's an all-in-one assembly of the controls, amp, and connections.

There has been a complete assembly on Ebay for 8 months now. He was asking $2,400. Too much.
I kept sending him reasonable offers and he finally excepted one. Its on the way.
Now I hope everything works as it should. I really hope I didn't go the wrong way on this, Its my wifes
bike and I'm sure she would rather just bluetooth music from her phone to something more modern.
I liked the idea of having the "Original equipment" set up.

Just FYI for the next guy that does this, It IS all in one unit.
Turned out great!

$2400??!!??!!
Always good to have the OE setup, either on the bike or the shelf. Glad it came together for you. :2vrolijk_21:

@acevtwin sorry been a bit since I’ve been in here and a former 2012 CVO Convertible owner
The Amp is in the front fairing
I did a mod pre Covid on mine added a higher wattage mini amp, upgraded the stock speakers and upgraded the stock Zumo GPS that came with it to the 665 Lm from garmin
It was quite the process but worth it got louder and clearer sound and the 665 has Bluetooth so you stream music from phone but it also has direct Spotify integration

What speakers did you find that will fit in the stock housing?
