On a 2013 CVO road glide the speakers are in the saddle bag lids - my question's when washing the bike do I need to cover the speaker grills with some kind of plastic? And what happens to the speakers if and when they get wet? Like if I'm riding and it starts to rain???

On my 13 I never done any thing when riding in rain or washing and never had an issue with leaks, they was stock HD speakers

I have a 2016 cvo streetglide and I never worried about it , I washed it and would just open the bags and drain the water after washing and it never seemed to be an issue but after a few years both rear speakers stopped working , I know the harley speakers have a bad rap and it could just be that they are not well built but or maybe having water sit in there everytime i wash it contributed as well anyway I replaced the harley speakers with Soundz speakers and from now on I will wrap with saran wrap before washing

I have never covered the speakers in my 13 CVO King or any of the other CVO's I have had with speakers in the lid.

I don’t they blown twice but that was a bad factory amp on  bad speakers. The rears where redesigned last year I think. They are holding up well so far and sound better.

I believe the key to keeping the speakers from blowing is to completely disable speed variable volume, and keep bass at around 50%...
