Title: FLHTCUSE4 corrosion spots on fins near spark plug - front cylinder
Post by: Jon Seddon on March 08, 2011, 02:46:58 AM
Hi chaps

I'm not sure how it happened but the front cylinder of my SE4 has spots of light grey corrosion on the black part of the fins around the spark plugs it could be salt I've failed to wash off after a winter ride or some SDoc100 cleaner left on or some other cleaner, I really don't know how it's happened.

Haven't got any pictures as I'm working away right now.

Any ideas how to get the spots off?

Thanks in advance.

Jon

Soap, water and a scotchbrite pad used lightly.

Is it black crinkle finish? If so I would try getting it clean as possible and spray Pig Spit, or even just some spray lubricant on it first before using any scotchbrite on it. A little late now, but Pig Spit is great stuff, it can be sprayed on chrome, or paint, no need to wipe unless you get to much on. It restores the black and also repels water and dirt, I love the stuff!

That S100 is quite alkline. It must be well rinsed or the white grey stuff appears, had it on an 03 whell hub, drove me bonkers...Now I prefer neutral ph wash formulas.

Mike, this isn't the S100 stuff. I just clean the bike really well and spray the motor, it can get on the chrome won't hurt the paint, just let it dry and you can't even see it. Everything sprayed will bead water for a month or so, makes cleanup really easy. It restores the faded black crinkle paint on the motor to a nice dark black.

Thanks for the advice, not sure I can get Pig Spit over here in the UK.

I'll have a look around.

No T, I thought Jon had used the S100...I have used the pig spit, it works great.

I mostly use honda spray cleaner or did ...same idea but cheaper.

I've got some S100 motorcycle engine brightener, is that similar?

I thought you may have used the total cycle cleanerS100..That engine black restore is a pretty good product..the total cleaner I found to be too harsh, especially on aluminium..

That's how I found Pig Spit, I was going to buy the S100 at a local HD dealer, but the parts guy said he liked the Pig Spit a lot better.

Cheers Guys

So it would be okay to use the S100 Engine brightener, but take care with the S100 total cleaner (i.e. don't use it)?

That would be my take Jon...you may find the honda spray cleaner at any dealer, auto or bike...good stuff.
