TIRES?
« on: September 24, 2012, 12:05:10 PM »

Sorry if this has been covered, but since I am new to this, is there an average number of miles when the tires should be replaced?  I know a lot depends on how one rides, or over what kink of roads.  I imagine many other factors apply (solo or with BSR, etc)

But is there any rule of thumb?

Thanks as always for everyone's opinions!

Check the wear bar marker on the tire...they skin out pretty quick once you hit that bar... :nervous:

I've been hearing around 15K on the stock late models touring tires. I've got just under 13K on mine and they are not ready to be thrown away by a long shot yet. I would guess I could get 16 to 18K out of them.

I change the front tire every other time that I change the rear.

I get 10,000 miles out of a rear and 20,000 out of a front. I do ride hard.

It's rare when I have a tire wear out, only happened once in 16 tires on my 08 SERK.  Cupping and a few nails have cost to do some premature replacements.  In 60,000 miles only the front went 9,000 before it wore out.  I had one rear tire cup so bad @ 3,000 miles I had to change it.  Driving style, air pressure monitoring and tire balancing are some issues that need to be addressed for long life.  There are allot of post you can check out for more info.
