Throttle/Idle cable installation?
« on: April 23, 2005, 02:10:09 PM »

I'm thinking on upgrading my throttle/idle cabels on my 01 RG. Is this a simple job? Can I just tie a string around the old cables ,remove them and then tie the string around the new ones and just pull them back through?

TIA,
John

John;
It probably won't be that easy. Its best to remove the tank to do the job. Its just a lot easier to get them through properly. The hardest part is getting them onto the "pully" on the EFI or carb.

Good Luck

The first time I ever tried to change one (we still only had one then) I thought I'd be realy smart and try as you described.  Fished that sucker for a half hour.   Got mad.  Said bad words.  Had a beverage.

Then took 15 minutes to take the tank out of the way and the job was easy.  The only thing easier was making it harder to begin with.

WOuld I have to remove the tank completely ? or just prop up the rear?

On the old bike that I'd tried your fishing method I just jacked up the rear.  On a carb'd Heritage I added braided cables to did the same thing.  Added cruise control to a 2000 Road King (which added a third throttle cable to the mix) and braided cables (EFI bike) and on that one I raised the whole tank.
