Wild 1 Road Glide W0517's
« on: March 08, 2010, 09:01:35 PM »

I have been looking at replacing the stock handebars with a the Wild 1 Chubbys WO517.  From what I have gathered on the site, this will pull back the bars about 4" and increase the height about 2".  I am planning on installing the Heat Demons installed when the bars are changed out.  From what I understand, the stock cables will work.  I was wondering:

Since the bars are 1.25" vs 1.0", will the stock toggle switches still work?

It looks like the stock top clamps will work.  Is the true?

I know that the bars will have to be drilled out so the Heat Demons will work.  Are there any other issues that I have to consider before the change?

For those who have make the change, do you like them?

Thanks,

Charles

The 517's are very much like pushing a wheel barrel. You wrist angle is very turned out and uncomfortable in my opinion.

Ohio Phil,

Could you please post some pics of the bar when you get them?  I am specifically interested in the grip angle compared to the OEM bars.  I am 5'9" and find myself leaning forward just enough to be uncomfortable for longer rides.

I was thinking of adding Heritage bars to mine. Can reuse the stock cables and I believe the bars are raised and come back a couple of inches. Wrist angle look good too.

I have a friend who put the Heritage bars on his RG and his wife's RG trike and he loves them.  I have sat on his bike a couple of times and they feel like are in the right place.

I had 517's on my '05 Rood King and loved them.  Putting another pair on the FLTRSE3 was one of the first upgrades I did.  These work for my riding style.  Great on the long rides.  Handlebars are like helmets, you have to keep trying them until you find the set up that suits you.

Wow, from what I've read on this site about swapping bars, $189 is a GREAT price.
