This past Thursday, Lewis (1Joker) & Kristina and Martha and I headed out for a quick trip to Copperhead Lodge. Lewis just had his first service on the new SERK on Wednesday and we were ready to help him introduce it to some of the best riding roads in the country. Instead of just taking the shortest route to the lodge, we turned the day into a full blown riding day through the mountains of North Carolina and then made our way down to the lodge taking the least straight roads we could find. We only had a couple of sprinkles along the way, but 20 minutes after we arrived at Copperhead Lodge, the skies opened up!
Here's a picture of Lewis and I with the SERKS at Bridal Veil Falls.

Friday, we took advantage of Chief's CHL Hat Trick Route and could not have asked for better weather. Here, we're taking a quick break on our way to the Cherohala Skyway.
-
Here's Martha and Kristina adding some scenery to an already beautiful backdrop along the Cherohala Skyway. No traffic on the Cherohala this day and this ride was nothing less than incredible.
-
A stop in Telico Plains for an awesome lunch at the Riverstone Restaurant (formerly the Bistro on the River). The menu is even better and the people are so friendly there. A must stop for anyone riding in the area. Special priority parking spaces for motorcyles and food that hits the spot perfectly prepared.

Lewis, Kristina and I with the bears overhead. Now Martha is on a mission to find those bears. I have no idea where she's going to put them, but I'm sure she'll let me know.

All I can say is I trust you have these two fine ladies under lock and key...Thanks for sharing Martha and Kristina on the site and I trust you enjoyed the ride!
Enjoy!

An over the shoulder shot of Lewis and Kristina as we made our way to the Dragon.
-
Lewis and Kristina at Deal's Gap. It was Lewis' first time on the Dragon and he and the SERK were amazing. We were never pushed by any of the rockets and we even pressed one for quite a while. Law enforcement was heavy on the Dragon Friday, but passing bikers always alerted us to their presence just in the nick of time. One was strategically located just to mess up one of Killboy's photo spots. How rude!

Great pics, Lilbear. And that Bridal Veil Falls Road (whatever the # is) has some truly tough 'switch-back' corners, doesn't it? :nervous: har. :drink: spyder

Craig
I see you with a long sleeve shirt.
I see jackets on.
I see gloves.
Weather a little chilly?
I guess that SERK is broke in now?
I'm betting Lewis will have a taller windshield soon!
Both bikes looking great!
Don't let him get a 2 into 1 Rinehart!

Saturday, we had an inventive ride trying to exploit all of the great roads in the North Georgia mountains that we could. Our travels took us to Brasstown Bald (highest elevation in Georgia). We have been there several times before, but this was the first time that we actually took the tram up to the observation tower. The views from up there are simply beautiful. The feeling you get when looking around 360 degrees and seeing the wonder of the surrounding mountains is indescribable. Here are the girls enhancing the scenery again.

Chip,
At altitude on Friday, I think it was in the high 60's. Perfect riding weather. Lewis more than doubled his miles on the SERK this weekend and it is now properly broken in. I think he'll have the taller windshield before the week is out. As for the pipes, who knows, but Kristina says that before he does anything else to the bike, he has to get some pipes! How can you argue with a women that uses logic like that?

Can't argue with that logic!
Glad everyone had a great time!

Lewis and Kristina at Anna Ruby Falls. Having never been there, who were we to deprive them from that hike up the mountain to see the falls. Really, it's a nice break from riding and gives everyone a chance to stretch their legs. Somehow, we got into the marathon riding thing while we were there, but it's so easy because the area is just loaded with great, no make that incredible, riding roads.

On Saturday, there was a concert evet at Copperhead Lodge. Here's a picture of an Atlanta band, GRIP. They were good and altogether a great warm up band for the headliner, Jeff Bates.
-
Here's Kristina with Jeff Bates. He had a great show and the sound was incredible. The folks at Copperhead Lodge took great care of us as they do of all Copperhead guests with VIP treatment all the way. We had worried about the crowds with a concert being there, but the way they manage the whole thing makes it a great ending to a perfect riding day.
-
Jeff in concert. He really has some great songs. Could not believe how great a show they put on at Copperhead. It really helped that the weather was perfect with a nice cool evening and not a drop of rain. Full blown sound setup. They didn't miss a trick. I wouldn't hesitate to attend any concert event at Copperhead Lodge.

Here's a BMW with some high tech sidecar that rode in for the event. Notice the little Reflex scooter in the background that has been converted to a trike. Some girl rode the thing in and new she would be too drunk to ride home, so she had her grandmother come and ride it home for her. Too bad we didn't get a picture of that. She had her oxygen hooked up and everything. See that old gal on that little trike really put a smile on my face. You could really see how it made her feel so alive as she twisted the throttle.
-
We had a great ride home today. It seemed like the rain chased us all day. Kristina had to get that rain cover on the T-Bag just in case!
-
That thing could easily remind you of a 'coffin'. :nervous: spyder
-
See the ominous clouds filled with rain behind Lewis and Kristina? It was literally minutes behind us at this point. One missed stoplight and we would have been soaked. Timing was great though and once we got moving again, the rain was well behind us (O.K., maybe 20 minutes or so, but still BEHIND us).
We had a great time. I really want to thank the great folks at Copperhead for the great service, attention to our needs and most of all, maintaining a great lodge type resort in the center of some of the country's best riding roads. If you haven't been to Copperhead Lodge, you are missing a truly one of a kind motorcycle vacation experience. If you've been, I'm sure they'd love to see you back soon. The economy is certainly putting a strain on their business as well as many others in the vacation business, but they continue to maintain a very high level of service, great food and some pretty fine accommodations. I know it's just one of those places that we will continue to keep going back to. Anyone going? Let us know and we'll sure try to join you. So many roads, so little time!

Spyder,
That thing was sure bizzare. It was even air conditioned. Can't imagine taking that thing around the twisties in the area. Kind of defeats the great riding experience, especially with the great lean characteristics of that BMW, but to each his own.
-
Craig,
Thanks for sharing the pictures. It looks like a great time.

Maggie Valley 2008? Hope to see you guys there.
Lewis is learning pretty fast about everything his bike "needs". Keep in mind, we don't really want all of this stuff, but we "need" it.
