Using the HD Sena 30K in the mesh public mode on two different bikes with WHIM. While using mesh, the conversation is like talking at home but sometimes it gets louder and becomes very sensitive. I can hear the vibration of the boom and mike, squeaking of the helmet and even breathing from the other rider. The sensitivity sometimes is present on both or just one. Reading the manual doesn't help me. Maybe I need a 18 year old to troubleshoot.

Sapman, I was having the same issue on my 30K also. If you haven't downloaded the Sena app on your phone, I recommend that you do. Then you can Bluetooth the 30K to your phone app and see all settings. There are settings in there that I never knew about. I think I turned off the side tone and it took care of my issue. I may have also changed another setting or 2.

side tone is hearing yourself through the headset. i hated that when it accidentally got turned on. i was having some issues with mine, and i was in contact with one of the guys at hd. he sent me these photos of the settings that he recommends (with the sensitivity settings being set appropriate for you, trial and error). didn't exactly fix my issue, but at least it's a starting point for the settings.

if you haven't do so already, make sure that you update your headset to the latest firmware. if it is the hd branded set, the firmware is now 'new' enough that you can download the 30k utility from sena which will allow you to make changes via your smartphone. so with the new firmware, you can change your settings either through the bike utilizing the whim, through the hd device manager on your computer, or through the 30k utility on your smartphone.

Just updated the firmware to 2.2. I’ll let everyone know how it works next week. Thanks for the tips.

did you check the whim for updates? don't know that that would make a difference, but i bought 2 whims, one for me, one for the wife. one needed updating, one not.

Updated both headset and WHIM. Didn’t fix the original issue but I did notice that the headset doesn’t say ‘hello’ or ‘goodbye’ anymore. I set both of them to the suggested settings in the thread.

Hmmmm? Mine still says both. Also after saying Hello, it says connected to boombox.
Do you have the 30K paired with the boombox or your phone?

So, am I to understand that you can use the 30K headsets to communicate bike to bike while paired with the WHIM?

Only to the bike. Not the phone. The WHIM was updated to 2.2. Wife's headset is the same, lost the 'hello' and 'goodbye'.

Where do you connect to the bike with a laptop to update the WHIM?

Its a cable with a screw on cap on it and should be under the seat towards the front.

Thanks!

mine did that after i did an update previously. not sure why, but one of the configuration settings got changed. changed it back and got the voice back. think it might be the 'voice prompt' setting. noticed in the screenshots posted above, hd had that function disabled. i have mine enabled.

The WHIM update plug is under the seat. It’s a round cap. Uses the same cable that you use to charge the headset. There are some YouTube videos out there that will help.
I’ll bet I lost my ‘hello’ prompt when I reset some of the settings. Thanks for the tip.
