Trailer hitch wiring
« on: June 29, 2008, 07:48:13 PM »

Will be wiring a hitch on Kathy's  :cherry: this week and from reading here I am not going to install a load equalizer.

The trailer has regular bulbs

Will I need to leave these bulbs in the trailer or install LED's

If I install LED's in the trailer, will I have to install LED's in the whole bike so not to use a load equalizer?

Brian,

I replaced all of the trailer lights and the rear lighting, everything that runs through the rear harness, with LEDs. I was OK until I put LEDs in the front turn signals. I then started getting funky flash patterns with the front LEDs. By leaving the front as standard bulbs, they supply enough load on the circuit so the turn signal module is happy. I have not installed any load equalizers at all. If I want to run LEDs up front, I would need the equalizers to add load into the circuit.

LEDs in the trailer can go in without having to do a load equalizer.  Having the incandescent bulbs in place in the bike is all that's necessary.  Other LEDs beyond those stock bulbs won't "confuse" the system.

Load equalizer only necessary if you replace the bike's stock bulbs with LEDs.

The thing is in the mail.

If you leave regular bulbs in the trailer it will cause flashing issues also. to much draw. So switch trailer to LED's.

Brian,
You should be very afraid those same words have been spoken only to end up w/mystery packages (that sometimes have ended up being "postal tacos"). ;D

True, but I still have that uneasy feeling when I see the postmark says a certain city in MO. :nervous: ;D

I do... remember I'm a firefighter. However I'd rather walk thru the gates of hell w/a five can bucket of water before not being a little apprehensive of packages received from certain places. I've heard to many story's about "Postal Tacos". ;D
