My J&M Speakers Arriving 12/15
« on: December 14, 2006, 10:59:11 AM »

Hi All,

I thought I might be a ginuea pig for this part of town so I ordered a set of J & M component replacements (2+2) for my SEUC.  Should have them sometime friday afternoon.  Will set up some pics so you can see the tiny speaker detail.

J & M says I will absolutely be amazed how they match to the stock amp, allowing major volume with no distortion.  Yeh, we will see. I am somewhat critical since I imagine that the HK amp pushing at the high end might generate some distortion all by itself.

But it's another experiment.  If that is good for a while fine. I just don't know how a 2 ohm speaker can give that great a performance in a small package.   Of course, the ultimate would be the HAWG WIRED, but that get's into some serious $$ which would be fine for the motofile riding 20K or more a year imho.

I bought a pair for my '05 SE Electra Glide at Biketoberfest.  Had them installed in 20 minutes.  Worth every penny.  Sound great.  Really handle the volume.  Lots better base.

Well, I am on the fence until I actually go for a ride.   The speakers are not as 'meaty' as I thought they would be but I am not that familiar with 2 ohm ranges anyway.

However, the volume is louder and there is clearly less distortion. The HK amp does a pretty good job.

I am interested to see what it does over the pipes while cruising, that is where the stock speakers let go, becasue they had more noise than crispy tunes.

I must understand this is a bike, and cant compare to my auto, w its 200w sub in it.  But I do like loud, but only loud and clear.

I think, and assume, hehe, that for the few bucks for this is is well worth the switch.

If you spend more , of course, you can get a setup from HW for that full immersion effect.
So far I give them a thumbs up. Will post a post ride report, yea or nay.

Im not that sure, but if the hog wired is 300 amps, with a 4 channel speaker system, and Hog wired is supposed to be better than these, I wouldnt be happy at all with it, as I dont feel I have all that much volume with the hog wired set up. If these are louder and almost as clear as the hog wired, Then Id be un happy that I spent so much on the HWired. How much was the J &M set up

Hi Mike,

Let's make sure we are on the same page first.  All I did was replacement speakers from J & M.  They replaced the factory speakers only at 2ohm.  I think it was 190 or so.

Now, Hog Tunes are also a replacement speaker for fronts, and rear at 2ohm, but they also have an add on set of speakers for those with opnly 2 now. Whereas they do add an amp.

But are you referring to the Hawg Wired setup?  They use replacement amps, and match their own amps w 4ohm output to 4 ohm input> That is another deal completely.  Now are you also saying that you currently have the Hawg Wired, and they are not so swift?  I am curious on this issue since I may jump a little more upscale soon

PS, The change out of the factory 07 SE 140 watt HK factory system speakers to the new J & M speakers, IMHO, are nearly the same.  I do think the J & M's will benefit those more with earlier models in any circumstance however.  The bottom line IMO is do something dramatic if you really want to notice an audio change. I dunno.

The way I am reading this, I think you are confusing 3 seperate products. Please clarify,

My previous bike had the SE amplified radio, and I put the J&M replacement speakers in.  Never was very happy. In fact, I felt as though the factory speakers were just as good.

On my 06, I went with the Hog tunes. When I first cranked it up in the garage, I wasn't overly impressed, but out on the road, they shine. I like loud and have never felt the need for more volume at all. Great product and you will never deal with a better person than PEZ.

Im not saying that the hawg wired is not way better than the stock set up, its much clearer and crisp, I am disappointed in the volume, I was expecting it to be much louder. Id say the stock set up is as loud, but not as clear by far.

I am trying to decide right now how to upgrade my system.  I have tourpack removed and am only running 2 front speakers.
I will rarely have tour pack on the bike.

My 2 Ideas:

1)            No amp...... replace stock with Hog Tunes by PEZ

2)   Hawg wired amp and new Hawg wired front speakers to match

What kind of difference will there be between these 2 systems at 65 mph is the question

Thanks

The answer is

The difference is like night and day!
On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the best,
Stock with Hog tunes is a 3
Hawg Wired is an 11.

Anymore questions?

Jim (hd-dude) on the site sells the Hawg Wired.
PM him and go for the best.
I have Hawg Wired in all three dressers!
There is a reason for that.

Chip, are you using the HW component speakers?  If so I noticed similar striking differences.  Between the "standard" HW and HT speakers not nearly as much difference.  In fact each did a bit that the other did not.  HW probably my preference.  But no home run in comparison either way.  With the component speakers, however, it's a significant difference.  You hear things (clearly) that weren't just not clear before.  You hear things just weren't there before.
