The screen is dark 95% of the time. Primary use is bluetooth tunes to the helmet on long trips. Secondary use is GPS, mainly in cities but spoken turn by turn directions allow you to keep your eyes on the road. Looking at the screen comes in handy if you miss a turn. You can pull over, look at the map and get back on track.

Other uses while stopped include still and video camera, internet access (think restaurant reviews, lodging info, e-mail, Facebook), route planning, sharing photos.

The iPad is with me regardless of where I go so this just makes it more convenient.

Mark, you think that "waterproof" case defines waterproof as proofed against rain in 70mph winds or just against falling in puddles or the toilet and getting picked right back out?

6 and 8 are the highest scores on the European IP scale.  So that's a good start.  The 8 suggests safe against water during long term submersion and some pressure and the 6 should mean its proof against any dust intrustion.  Still curious about how it might do with 70 mph pressure in a hard rain.  Then again Mark is too smart to have the Wide Glide out at 70 mph in a hard rain for very long.

You know me too well Twolane! Waterproof case is just to protect the iPad from a sudden shower. Under normal circumstances, about the time we stopped to put on the rain gear, the iPad would go into a saddlebag or other protected luggage. I've ridden more than a few miles on the WG2 in the rain but I try not to be stupid with my gear.

Couldn't resist. Not an improvement to the bike but certainly the optimal use of it! Hwy 12 in Idaho. If you haven't been, you gotta go!

Quick fix to the Beast when I busted off the mirror on our recent trip out west. Cheap Chinese parts! Thought the fix was creative and it worked for 7 days on the road. Back to normal now. Wish someone made a high quality set of flame mirrors!

Always wanted to do this. The fireman was a bit perplexed, but he got it after a bit.
