Don't forget the boots.  I invested in a pair of Cruiserworks boots and my feet have never been wet with them on.  I bought them in Daytona in '05 and tested them on the way home.  I rode about five hours in the rain and arrived home with dry socks (the rest of my friends poured water out of their boots).  You do need to tuck your pants into the tops of the boots and then put your rain gear over the boots.  If the bottoms of your jeans get wet, the water will wick up the pants under your rain gear.

Rain gear is something I finally bit the bullet on awhile back and went "substantial."  I like the Froggers stuff because it worked decently, was easy in and out, and folded to almost no space when not in use.  And I still use the top.  But the bottoms were never completely competent.

No lower suspender strap around the boot meant they'd creep up.  The tops would occasionally creep down.  For short runs they were ok.  But for long days they just weren't up to what was required of them for riding.  Had had various sorts of rubbers before trying them for two or three years but finally bit the bullet and got something real a year or so ago.

Was a bib type suspender thing with good breathing mesh throughout and boot straps with built in booties that can be used or not at the bottom.  The down side is they aren't as easy to get in to.  But I always try to stop when I see the rain coming, not when I'm already in it.  So that's a manageable thing.  The real difference for me in their use is the simple on and off Froggers might come on and off a few times throughout a day that saw intermittent rain.  With these things once they're on I just leave them on until I'm in for the evening or I know for sure there are blue skies as far as I can see.

They do work great; even with the slightly more difficult entry requirements.  But they're comfortable once on with their own pockets easily accessible and zippers in all the right places.  They were even an HD product.  Just one of those things I do as I get a bit olde... um... more experienced that I might not have contended with previously.

If I had the opportunity to do it over, I'd have gone a 1/2 size larger on my boots.  I wear 13s on everything that I buy, but I'm just a little cramped in the toes on the Cruiserworks.  I hated to think about going to the 13-1/2s, but should have.

Yeah, Phaze...I took their advice when they told me on the phone to get the size of the largest shoe I have, which is a heavy duty backpacking boot...a half size larger than what I normally wear.  They were right...fit like glove.

TwoLane...what kind of raingear is this you have?  We need part numbers/descriptions for our OCD, man.

cuthbertss,
I have the harley goretex paclife suit, and I use the exigent overboot. Easy to put on, fits over any boot, folds up small, and only cost $16. When put them on have to wear on outside of raingear (wick up leg to jeans if wear under rain pants). If looking for something easy and cheap these are the way to go.  John

I have tried several rain gear and this one is what I found more confortable, light, cheap, easy to wear and pack.....besides doesn't get too much space in the saddlebags..

Men's Canal Street Rain Suit

Don't let the weather determine when you ride. This microdenier waterproof, seam-sealed jacket is made of ultra light fabric with a zipper front so it packs neatly into the hood for easy storage in saddlebags. Features a draw-cord waist, heat shield on the inner legs, reflective piping, a helmet-friendly hood, and Harley-Davidson
