Fuel Gauge Gasket
« on: July 20, 2010, 09:40:26 PM »

Has anyone had problems with the gasket under the fuel gauge allowing water to fill the gauge well. While drying mine this evening I noticed water seeping out from under the gauge. Checking it farther the entire fuel guage well (for lack of better words) was full of water.

This is not just from washing it. I have been caught in several mid west storms while riding. It just so happened that I discovered this issue after washing it.

Skiers,

I washed mine yesterday and did not notice any water in the gauge.

I did not notice any water in my gauge either, I noticed it coming out of the gauge well while drying the tank with my blower.

Don't let the Wizard's "dirty" thoughts distract you. My ride gets a regular and very thorough cleaning and detailing which includes a deluge style rinse. With the amount of water that hits the fuel gauge during the rinse cycle, if there was a place for water to get in it will be there when I look. The key word is "when" which I hope will be tonight.

skiers,

I finally checked last night. The good news is that it's all dry in there so you most likely will not have an ongoing problem once you replace the gasket. I did notice that it was pretty evident when it was seated properly. Not quite "clicking" into place but you could definitely feel when it was right.

I've notice at times the fuel gauge keeps popping up a little bit while I ride.  Took it to the dealer & they've ordered another one.  Don't know if you guys are having the same problem.
