Look at motor oil vs. gear oil on a viscosity chart. www.bobistheoilguy.com/visc.html

I can only answer from about 50 miles with Mobil 1 in all three - its what dad used.  Then went to Redline in the Tranny and Primary, and the bike is smoother and shifts easier.  Still Mobil 1 in the motor.

Anyone using this Mobil product?
http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Other_Products/Mobil_1_Fully_Synthetic_Gear_Lube_75W-140LS.aspx

I run something similar in the rear end of my F-150...with a MagTech cover, have not had a rear end failure towing WAY past the rated capacity for some of my pulls (don't ask).

Overall I like Redline products- I've used the 20-60 engine oil and HD SKHprf trans oil on several bikes, and even their syn diesel oil in my Cummins with very good results.

When I replaced the 5psd trans on my 06 FLHX with a Baker DD6, at the time of install Baker recommended using Redline HD shockproof so I found some and put it in- I had previously been running BelRay for 11,000 miles with no complaints. So Baker now recommends Amsoil instead of Redline. I asked, but couldnt get them to tell me why.  At the end of the day, Redline, Amsoil, BelRay are all very good oils, I think it gets down to personal preference.

I didnt like they way the Redline it behaved in my FLHX Baker DD6 trans, it just never felt like it shifted all that well. However, it works fine in my Softail, so the jury is out on better or worse shifting.

After 4,000 miles on the new DD6 trans, I replaced the Redline in my FLHX and went back to BelRay. When I drained the trans, for the hell of it I filtered the redline through a paint strainer- just to see what was suspended in the oil. Here is the gunk that was suspended in the oil-
