CVO, one small trick that is surprisingly helpful is to pull a sock over each spotlight.  Painted surface on cotton slide easier than painted surface against shiny metal.  And you worry about it less.

You can slide the fairing up one side first.  So that it's trapped behind only one spotlight and allow yourself much more room to get at the headlight plug.  Have a screwdriver in your right rear pocket handy in case the socket seems difficult to get off and you need a little leverage.

OK....Don pulls out the Handy little sock trick
but dare I ask where that sock has been?

or better yet....was that 2 left (leaning) socks) or 2 righties?

Don't know whether they were left or right; but here's one that made me laugh out loud.

We've all shared the sock-as-tool thing here.  Apparently the trick has legs.  Last summer I'm sailing across southeastern Missouri on US60 just short of the turn-offs to the rivers and the bridges.  Come around a pearl white Ultra on the highway and notice a couple of nice fluffy white socks flapping in the breeze.  I think he forgot something when he finished up the night before.

CVOwner-

Don't feel bad about not being able to easily unplug the headlight as it is hard to squeeze and pull at the same time.  Will get easier the more the fairing is off. Once you get the plug off, put some dielectric grease on the terminals of the plug.

As Porthole stated, it is sometimes easier to just pull the headlight out as mentioned and then unplug.  With the Bi-Xenon headlight, there is no other choice than doing it that way.  And, cover the front fender up.

Since my fairing has only been off once or twice no wonder it's still difficult....

I remove mine without removing the headlight first, and one of the things that helped the most was 2lane's little "sock on the spots" trick.  After opening it up the first time, I played with the routing of the wiring to get a little more slack and subsequent removals have been a piece of cake.
