Drop the headlight lens while changing bulbs.  Dented it through the fender protector.

Yeah.  I dropped about a hundred "F" bombs.  The CVO Boxers ran back in the house and hid under the bed.  Renea went to her sewing room.

So now........I'm just REALLY bummed.

That's a tough one...  Can't take it back, can you...  I did something similiar to my 01 SERG way back when.  I still have the fender wrapped up on a shelf - dent and all.  Of course, back then I just ordered another one - because it was the current year.  I don't suppose you have that option.  But, good body and paint guys can work miracles...  Just another thing to deal with...   :(

I'm not clear on all courses of action yet.  Concord Purple is available on some things, but I'm not sure about fenders.  I'm gonna wait til I'm a little more rational before I decide on a particular course of action.

The good news is it's only stuff and no one was hurt. I am sure after the steam has cleared you will be able to find someone to repair it so it looks like new!

Time and money - If you have a lot of one, you can get by with less of the other.

Still gives me a cramp in my stomach thinking about it though. I am perfectly capable of doing the same thing!

Piece of cake for one of the paintless dent repair guys.  Don't sweat it, they'll have it looking good as new.

HML is the paint damaged or did you highlight the dent? I have repaired a few fenders but I don't do any paint work (paintless). If there is no paint damage I might be able to help you. huntsville is not that far from Acworth, especially when there might be a chance to save the factory finish. If the paint is damaged best to get it repaired at a bodyshop locally. let me know if i can help..Rick  :2vrolijk_21:

I can see this working............in like July, or if it was 90 degrees in the garage.  Of course, I can simulate the conditions with a heat gun.  I'll add this to the list of courses of action and mull it over.  Certainly, this one is the least invasive.  Thanks Mike.

Yeah........this ain't my first rodeo either.  Did almost the same thing to the 02 Ultra, but wasn't smart enough to use any type of fender cover.  Dropped a screwdriver tip first.  Ended up having it repainted.  Good as new after the fact.

Hi Rick.  I know where Acworth is, and since the paint is not damaged, it may well be worth a trip.  Just need to figure out when we can do this.  Gonna be tough the next couple weeks and beyond.  Christmas.  Evo gets spayed one week from tomorrow.  New Years.  Somewhere in there I'd like to pick up my green bike...............and hang around Rod's shop while he builds a 113cid, just so I can learn a little something.  Renea leaves for Mississippi on 4 Jan for a month.  School starting back.  I have an interview this afternoon.

I'll let you know.  :)

And add this post to the "stupid things done lately" thread...  ;)

Just trying to help....I done the same, sactly the same and one even stupiter to the tank but we won't revisit painful past experiances... ;D

Dry ice is still -110 F or so...I get it at the supermarket for keeping bait frozen and it got the ding out of my trucks tailgate..Don't put it directly on the paint, use some paper tween it..Or get the dent wizard guy, as long as the paint ain't damaged... :2vrolijk_21:

Consider jacking the machine up, dropping the front wheel and try spooning the crease out. It may not turn out perfect, although maybe good enough.

Give an H-D Dealer a call and ask them about the cost of “Factory” refinishing; I believe that it is reasonably priced and at the very least you can use that number as a benchmark for other refinishers. H-D will fill dents, but they must be minimal so you will still want to work it out the best you can.

Consider looking for an eBay fender to have refinished.

Good luck.  djkak

Yep........that would be easiest.  Found one on eBay, but it has a gray pinstripe.  Need one just plain Concorde Purple.  I'm still collecting courses of action.  Once I get everything coagulated, I'll put together some type of decision matrix and go with the one that is most mathematically practical.

Starting to become a "no biggy" tho'.  I'll git-r-dun.

My last bike, I was impressing myself with how quickly the windscreen came off, and how bad a$$ my ride looked without the windscreen.  Then I went to put it back on....
Windscreen+18 inch drop onto front fender=1 REALLY mad new bike owner.  Three chips on the front fender, but no dents....

If there is no sharp crease you might get it out with the heat and ice method. I'd be careful with a heat gun, I'd get the wife's hair dryer on high and get the area pretty warm them use the dry ice. I've seen this done on hail damage before, but it was a nice smooth dent, not sharp creases.

Fancy talk for"it is still gonna cost me"... ::)

Whatever I decide to do it going to cost me in both money and time.  Factor in quality, and the other two are compounded............exponentially.  That's whyI want to make an informed decision.

Now THAT would suck!

The dent has a crease..........I'm thinking the paint will break...........not good.

Well if you have to repaint your fender you might think about making some weld on brackets, gets rid of the rivets and you can drop the fender down on the tire and hey the fender level.

Nah.........looks good, but not for me.  I do appreciate the suggestion, but slamming the fender would make brake pad changes a bigger PITA than they are already.  Plus, as good as it looks slammed, I like it better the way it's made.   :2vrolijk_21:

Defining the Ding

I've tried to capture some detail of the ding in the purple bike's front fender.  First time I've used settings other than Auto.  Not sure these are any more clear, but you can see the ding.  Dead center of each shot.

:ROFLOL:  Now that's funny.

I'm pretty much over it by now.  Just need to decide what I'm gonna do.  That paint is gonna crack if an attempt is made to shove it out from the underside.  My luck will ensure that.

Sorta narrows it down.  Buy another fender, or get this one repaired and repainted............................but, like someone has already mentioned, no harm done in trying to pop it out.  If the paint breaks, it has to be repainted anyway.   :nixweiss:

I think that will come out, worth a try! Get some dry ice and the the fender up then stick the ice on the warm metal. It has a crease shape to it, but not a hard line.

HML please don't use the dry ice with heat!! its not worth destroying the paint !! that dent in not bad at all. find someone local that does p.d.r. and spend the 100 to 200 bucks to get it fixed by a pro. thats the best advice you will receive I have been doing this for 15 years.  its really not that bad and it would be easer to fix it on the bike. just make sure its a technition that has a good rep. maybe check with your local mercedes or BMW dealer and find out who they use. thats where you will find the best in your area. shy of that I'm in Acworth and always available for a brother..   :'(    :2vrolijk_21:

Also had a set of Michelin Commanders installed, the front brake line replaced, and the jacked up stock brass screws in the carb float bowl replaced with SS hex screws.  When I got her home, I removed the remaining eagle stickers and replaced the broken saddlebag latch springs.  She's ready now.

Maybe one day I'll have both bikes under my roof.   :huepfenlol2: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenlol2: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenlol2:

Well Brian, I missed that too, but other than what I've already explained here, my best guess is the motorcycle was in Rod's shop, leaning on the jiffy stand.  They tend to do that from time to time, especially when the weather is crappy, waiting on parts, their human is drunk........or sleeping.......whatever.   :)

That would be PTR.  That's an entirely different problem.  Panty Traction Response is reported to be a very difficult thing to live with.
