Paint removal on tour pac
« on: April 08, 2018, 03:29:24 PM »

I bought a used tour pack for a 17 CVO Street Glide, orange and black. On the back it says “let’s ride”. I would like to remove that lettering, what can I use to remove it without harming the clearcoat. The lettering isn’t clearcoated over so I would think a little thinner would do the job.
Thanks for the help

My first go-to for this is always rubbing alcohol on a microfiber or other soft cloth.  Go gentle and give it time.  You're after thorough not fast.

Is the lettering actually paint or just an adhesive backed decal (stick-on letters)?

If it is paint, I’ve seen pin stripe lettering taken off with EZ-Off oven cleaner (Lemon scent). No harm to clear coat, but may take several passes.  The detailer said that was their body shops go to product,

Saw this done on a Silverado P/U.

Please go with a lacquer thinner or rubbing alcohol or some other such product that won't strip clear coat.  Oven cleaner will eat paint, clear coat, and powder coat.  It's not a pretty-surface friendly cleaning product.

The letters are painted on like what they would do at Sturgis on bikes, no clear coat.  Rubbing alcohol seems the way to go.

Another vote for rubbing alcohol & taking your time.
